    • Utah flash floods claim 4 hikers with 3 missing.

Last spring a group of us were camping in Zion NP and decided to hike a couple of the slots. We had the permit but first went to a ranger for a weather update. She warned about the potential for rain and advised us to keep watch. As circumstances evolved we decided not to make the hike and of course no rain fell.

From what I've read up to now, a group of 7 hikers received a similar warning and elected to hike. Now 4 dead with 3 missing with little hope.

    • Sad. I've been to Zion and done some other hiking in Utah, but I stay out of slot canyons for this very reason. You can have blue sky over you, no thunder and a storm 15 miles away can flood the slot and kill you.
