    • Hiker injured, helped off Appalachian Trail

      ASSOCIATED PRESS SEPTEMBER 08, 2015
A 65-year-old seasoned Appalachian Trail hiker has failed a second time in two years to negotiate the New Hampshire segment, suffering injuries from a fall. For two weeks each year since 1998, Robert Langley of New York City has gone hiking on sections of the trail. On Labor Day, he fell on steep terrain and lost consciousness for a short amount of time on Mt. Cube in Orford. His companions hiked two hours for help. About 30 responders reached Langley three hours after authorities learned he was injured. Medical personnel stabilized his injuries and, with assistance, he hiked to an ambulance, which took him to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. His condition was not immediately known Tuesday. Conservation officers also rescued Langley on Aug. 31, 2014, on Smarts Mountain in Lyme.
