    • Road Trip, Camping I-70

Does anyone know of a place to pitch a tent between Kansas city and St Louis? It needs to be off of I-70. Just looking to pit ha tent and leave early in the morning.

      Any campgrounds come to mind?

Or should we just keep driving till we see a campground sign and not plan our stop ahead of time?
    • years ago i drove to denver. i remember eating supper at a wendys in st louis so i woulda spent the nite somewhere in missouri but i don't have a clue where. if you have a gps you could check whats at the exits from the comfort of your lazy boy.

anyway, here is the top google result of "free campsites missouri" which looks like you have several options. i'd still check your gps, though.

    • one year when i drove to my parents house in arizona i thot it would be neat to sleep next to the mississippi river. so when i got to vicksburg i walked down to the river with my sleeping bag and pad and cowboy camped next to the water.

i think it would be a spectacularly bad idea to try that in st. louis.

Did you hit the casinos while you were there? I frequented the casinos when I lived there but never gambled a cent...free food, good food, and lots of food...they tried, but never suckered me into gaming, only gambling (since growing up older) I've done is poker with friends, and I consider that a donation for a fun evening.
I may grow old but I'll never grow up.

the casinos didn't exist when i camped by the water, but i've stopped on other trips. i'll lose about $10 and then put my wallet away.

    • On the way out we have a free night at harrahs by Paducah / Metropolis. We have allotted ourselves $40 each. We're headed to omaha, so we have a trip planned to the dog track. Bluffs run will be shutting down in Dec. $40 each for the track. On our way home were meeting a friend in KC ..... At harrah's, lol. ...
We figure we can spend another $40 each if we tent somewhere that night going across Mo.
    • Next time go out 40 and as soon as you get in RKansas get off and camp at Mound City Chute. If Tina's there tell her Fred said "whut up".

P.S. Not recommended if you have kids with you.

P.P.S. Also not recommended if you're not into heavy drinking with "transient" people of questionable moral values.

There's a fine line between backpackers and transients and sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. On the west coast, even transients are carrying Ospreys.
      Lost in the right direction.
