No time to hike the Appalachian Trail? Try these 12 easy section hikes

Don't have time for a thru-hike on the Appalachian Trail? That's ok.
If you are looking for an epic trail to hike, there isn't one more worthy than the legendary Appalachian Trail. Initiated by Benton MacKaye, a founder of The Wilderness Society, this trail has become a classic wilderness experience. It extends over 2,000 miles through 14 Eastern states, so a "thru-hike" can take several months.
Don't have time for a thru-hike? You can witness the many splendors the Appalachian Trail offers in small chunks. Whether you have an afternoon or a couple weeks to delight in a wild journey, there are many paths for you to explore.
Here are our suggestions on some not-to-be-missed sections of the trail.

Coach you notice how half of these are in the south and 2/3 before NY.

For everyone else Coach and I had a perception difference on what "easy" means, coming from our southern and northern perspectives.

Early into the PCT I joine a loose group of solo hikers. It consisted of me & Taro whom had previously hiked the AT & two females who had never done a long distance hike. The PCT is graded (I think 13%) to be equestrian friendly. At one point one of the women complained about how steeep the trail was getting. It was maybe 40% grade. I commented it wasn't steep. On AT steep begins when you stand up & extend your arm& can touch the trail in front of you. They looked at Taro & asked if it was true. He said yes & mentioned many parts where you had to use you hands. Michelle found out about New England hiking when we did the northern part of the Long Trail

nah,the best is yet to come.its tougher, but its spectacular.

I was right about your last day though!

I like the list; #1... someday
#3....!!!!
#4...longer than that
#6...soon I hope
#7.....I can't see happening too soon
#8 to almost #11.....done
#12...will just have to wait

It may get tougher but the rewards are so much greater! Less PUDs & swichbacks. & once on a ridge you normally stay high.

Yes, but my old friend was picking me up then. I definitely would have enjoyed it if I had been hiking on.

The 1/2 that are below the Mason Dixon line are still part of the 2/3 below NY, so you should not add them together. A Venn diagram would probably help.
