This has been a crazy summer of hiking. Instead of days in the wilderness, I hiked through communities and neighborhoods and walked along roads.
I met interesting people like the wonderful camp lady who gave me a cup of ice and a Mt. Dew, a great reminder that simple generiosity can make a big difference to someone. I met the kooky Marine couple in SNP who invited me to dinner after telling me that Mrs. Marine was "a true shades of gray lady." I was treated with suspicion when someone thought I was trying to skip out of paying for a campsite. All were experiences that I wouldn't trade.
Hiking through communities was wonderful but sometimes unnerving. Taking a cold shower after hiking in the heat was fabulous. Even more fabulous was finding shampoo and conditioner in the trash can, what a luxury. Being close to roads had me looking over my shoulder at times and a few times had me scurrying back to the trail. But it was all good and I enjoyed every minute.

Lost in the right direction.
