I used to run trails in several Southern states and saw few rattlers. Then I acquired a Lab from a shelter who accompanied me on the trails. She would usually range within a radius of 15 meters during the run.WiseOldOwl wrote:
Yea, this belongs in the political forum. Besides when was the last time anyone else here stepped on a snake?
The first time I saw her suddenly sit, whine a bit, and stare intently at a spot ahead of us on the trail, I wondered what she was doing. But I stopped and peered where she was looking. I finally saw a coiled rattler about two meters ahead. She stayed in place until I prodded the snake with a stick to encourage it to move.
During her short lifetime, she prevented me from stepping upon several rattlers in this fashion.
I often wonder how many times I've inadvertently passed close to a snake and not been struck.
