Really the only thing I'd add, is force yourself to take breaks every so often, really easy to overdue it and have it crash down all at once. But with your profession I'd imagine you'd see that coming.
The not using AC is a good idea if it works for you, I do this too to get acclimated to the heat.

Here's my hat I use exclusively when hiking in FL. This is at the end of a Lake to Ocean hike when we're getting ready to go for a rewarding dip in the ocean. I pin the back part of the brim up with a diaper pin to keep it from hitting the pack. If I could figure out how to wear a sombrero I would. Usually drink 8 - 12 liters of water during the course of the day and night with about half of those being half strength Gatorade. Full strength messes with my stomach in that kind of heat. I continue to drink and piss all through the night. I've seen some really sick people on these hikes from not drinking enough. We usually take off hiking in the dark way before daylight (hiking in knee deep swamp water in the dark will definitely get your attention and keep you alert) and hike hard till mid-morning and then slow way down. We try to be done for the day by 1:00pm and then shut it down. Even laying around in the shade will zap your strength. You gotta keep that fluid goin' in.WiseOldOwl wrote:

OK - my answer.
I plan my day today to heavy wooded areas I just got back from French Creek and the Horseshoe Trail. I take extra water for the dogs. My dromedary bag is super chilled and inside a Reflectix bag, to keep body heat from my back getting to it. I switch from a ball cap to a full brim, I spill water on the head band on occasion, and carry Gatorade powder in glad bags.
I eat a Banana for breakfast and 1/2 a Magnesium pill (No Cramps so far)
