Did 20 miles today to make it to Carlisle, PA. First motel since over 2 weeks ago at the whole in the wall one at Rock Fish Gap. Yesterday at Pine Grove Furnace watched several do the half gallon challenge, although I stuck with a hamburger and Gatorade and felt a lot better than they did later on. Passed a lot of halfway point stuff the last two days, which is also the midpoint of the days I am out here this summer. Really enjoyed the AT museum. If the rocks don't slow me down too much plan to be at the Doyle tomorrow. Otherwise I guess I will grab my package and lunch on Friday and move on.The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

No one explains to you the effect of the half gallon challenge on your bowel movements although at my age I had an idea. Reality far exceeded expectations. Impressive. Thank goodness I had a room with an ensuite. I would strongly recommend avoidance of privies in the first 60 miles north of Pine Grove.Resident Australian, proving being a grumpy old man is not just an American trait.

Got my room at the Doyle. Definitely a one time experience! Sitting here at Sorento's where I ate dinner and dreading going back.
I am with JimmyJam and TwistWrist. I already hate the PA rocks, and I know they are going to get worse. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

i survived the Doyle. I think I deserve a T-shirt.
Actually best part was the "live concert" by the hikers on the balcony. Nearly 20 all together (although most just the audience). The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Sitting at 501 shelter eating my salad and pizza as the hail pounds down on the skylight. I have stayed in my tent 90% of the time, but not tonight. I am feeling lucky. Trail magic this morning and tonight at the 501.The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Sitting at Joe's Place in Palmertona eating and about to head out again. Bug spray was leaking so I had to throw it away and had to buy some more.
One thing worse than the PA rocks is the wet PA rocks when it rains!
Fell on a slick swiveling rock yesterday, but just bruises and scratches, nothing serious. Did the Knifes Edge earlier today, no way I could have done that with my sling.
Really looking forward to NJ!The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Once you cross the road at High Point State Park NJ you will be out of the rocks. Be sure to go into the ranger station and check the hiker box- I got a full days worth of food- and they give the hikers a free drink."Dazed and Confused"

It took a lot of restraint to not concuss the just over 5 feet tall hostel owner that proudly told us he maintained that section of trail. When the garage that served as his hostel leaked that night it just added to my dislike for the guy.Resident Australian, proving being a grumpy old man is not just an American trait. -

When we stayed there half of us woke in a puddle from water that leaked under the door. Some dodgy wiring went under it and it didn't seal properly.
Also his wife went to work at about 5 am by walking through the garage we slept in to her car outside. She turned on lights and opened and closed the roller door.
I found him to be a horrible person and recommended in my journal that people avoid him.
He tears down competitors details for shuttles because "they're not registered with the ATC. He has a great pile of coolers that people have left as trail magic because "it's littering". I am sure the cokes (warm of course) he had for sale were from the trail magic coolers.Resident Australian, proving being a grumpy old man is not just an American trait. -
yep. we warned all of our trail friends behind us to steer clear of his place. we just didn't know any better. it looked like even his wife avoided him at the house."Dazed and Confused"

Made it to Delaware Water Gap, tent outside hostel (bunkhouse full). Will try to post more from the Mohican Outdoor Center while doing laundry tomorrow.
Tomorrow I will do what I have been looking forward to for over a week now, walking into NJ!The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.
