Yesterday Jimmy Buffett released his first album in 7 years.
Here's the first track; the entire album is on YouTube (probably need to search for "life on the flip side" and look for one of the playlists with all 14 tracks).
And for giggles and grins here's the final cut which was written by Michael Utley's son and Mac McAnally's daughter in which he says (paraphrased) he's not ready to quit.

I think Buffet may have been the first live concert I went to. It was the Valcano your.

I almost like this better than the original. I find those a Capella groups to be amazing. I especially find it hard to believe that the "percussion" is done vocally. I had not heard Home Free before.

I asked our son if he knew who Burt Bacharach was. He had no clue. I tried to explain his pop culture status, but failed. Then I thought I would compare him to a current music icon and again came up short. It made me think. Is their any recent or current celebrity whose position in pop culture would be comparable to Burt during my childhood of the 60s and 70s?

So the best comp I could give you is Tommy Lee of Motley Crue (married to Pamela Anderson). The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

He had a large body of work. Worked with the same lyricist for much of his career. The work spanned decades but mostly in the 1960's.

Deep conversations at the Waffle House...
When your career needs a jump start...you make a song about the Waffle House! The Jonas Brothers released this song TODAY. Bring change for the jukebox at your next visit. It's on all the streaming services -- Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, etc -- if you can't get enough of it.
This video has the lyrics:
No lyrics...but the Jonas Brothers singing live this morning for all you fans.

lol...
Guess who the musical guest was on SNL.
Guess what song they sung.
I'll have to make my own waffles and grits next week -- Jonas Brothers and Waffle House are trending. They'll have to start taking reservations.
I wonder if NYC even has a Waffle House.

And the latest song to reach 1 billion downloads on Spotify is...
If you have a Spotify account -- and 27 hours to kill -- you can listen to the "Billions Club" which is a playlist of all 449 songs to reach this milestone. You'll enjoy 3 other songs by Taylor on your journey.2,000 miler -
Too much Dolly and not enough everybody else but that's just my opinion.
<snip>
Dolly Parton is now an honorary member of the Fab Four.
The country icon reunited the two living Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, for a moving cover of the band's 1970 classic "Let It Be." Parton puts a gravelly, blues-rock spin on the wistful ballad, which features gentle harmonies from McCartney and a scorching guitar solo from Peter Frampton.
“Well, does it get any better than singing ‘Let It Be’ with Paul McCartney who wrote the song?" Parton said in a statement. "Not only that, he played piano! Well, it did get even better when Ringo Starr joined in on drums, Peter Frampton on guitar and Mick Fleetwood playing percussion. I mean, seriously, how much better does it get? Thanks guys!”

They should have gotten Eric Clapton, as he was sort of an honorary Beatle.

I find it interesting that with the Byrds and the Beatles it was arguably the youngest member who was seldom featured (supressed?) went on to have the best post that band career. Of course referring to Chris Hillman and George Harrison.
I know music is more a matter of opinion and taste, but I believe there is a strong case. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

And also in agreement that some members do get suppressed or pigeon holed. Thinking about Don Felder with The Eagles. Wanted to sing, but isn't that strong a singer. But one of the top guitar players out there. But in a line up of the Eagles.....

Strange situation, wild occupation
Livin' my life like a song
Awesome music career of over 50 years and great entrepreneur. I wanted to be a History major too back in college, but knew the financial prospects were not that good, so went with Computer Science instead. Fortunately for Jimmy he had music to fall back on.
Personally feel the stuff I cut my teeth on from 73-78 was his best. Definitely left a positive impact on the world, a great story teller focusing more on the fun side, although also reflective at times. So glad I have SiriusXM radio, where Margaritaville is one of my top 5 channels. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

my first concert (not counting symphony orchestras) was a Jimmy Buffet concert in Lansing MI back in 1984-ish. He was featuring his volcano song at the time.
We also made our own JB greatest hits cassette tape recorded from all our early vinyl albums we played on car trips. -

It appears it was related to skin cancer. My dad and sister have had several things removed, but spent most of their careers outside (general contractor and PE teacher/coach respectively). Perhaps all my time in an office has protected me to this point. Just don't know with all that running around in South Florida in just shorts for the first 18 or so years of my life. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.
