Quote from Trebor: “No hiking or camping for me, way too crowded on holiday weekends for my preference. Instead I'll be smoking a pork butt and drinking a few beers. Maybe take the boat to the lake for a while. ” Aren't they hard to light? How does one hold a lit pork butt to smoke it? I am guessing the few beers must be occurring BEFORE one goes to smoke the the pork butt... =O

He's been drafting Scott for a while. ” Oh, wouldn't that be a sports upset! Everyone has been watching Scott and the other guy (also in all the pics) goes for the win at the last minute. Of course, the end of the trail is on top of Katahdin this time...and it…

Quote from TrafficJam: “My daughter, her boyfriend, and his parents are coming for the weekend. We're cycling 33 miles. I'm expecting an announcement. He's a good guy but I'm not ready for this. ” Yeah, it can be a scary sign when they travel as a pack! Practice your "happy for you" face between now and then... Good luck! I will be staying home and making sure idiots don't burn down the woods/my house with their fireworks.

I like Wired's blog posts... walkingwithwired.com/p/home-page.html It started as an online journal for her PCT hike, she carried it over to the CDT, then the AT. Now she blogs about other hikes. She gives great gear reviews! You can really see how her love for the trail has evolved from being tentative, to being excited about each new adventure.

Quote from TrafficJam: “Who likes to hike? ” Eh, it's okay... I mean, if ya have to do it. You do know there are bugs out there and it rains and the sun shines and you might get dirty, and there are wild animals out there, right? Not to mention...a person could break a nail!

True. However, while the rest of you are getting whiplash from looking up, looking down, ducking away from the flying bat-snake... I will be happily strolling along in my box. Bonus points because it is multi-use! It can keep the land sharks away at the same time.

If the offspring of that pair is found anywhere on the trail, I am so gonna have to start hiking while wearing a plexiglass-encased shark cage. Hmmm - That might just double as a sh…

Quote from OzJacko: “Whilst I repeat that I have no interest in running anywhere, I have to admit that I am planning my own record attempt next year. After my 60th birthday, I intend to do a yoyo hike of the Bib. One direction with Annie at whatever pace she wants and then on my own back with full pack as fast as I can go (walking). I plan on averaging 25 to 30 miles or more a day (600mile trail). It wouldn't be an overall record and no one keeps age records but I think I can safely say it hasn'…

It will never take anything away from her accomplishments. At some point her record will fall and it might as well be to someone worthy. I have to admit I only follow these record attempts from the furthest spot on the sidelines. I can't imagine why anyone would want to race their way through a trail... I am usually fighting to spend more…
