My daughter & son-in-law love nutella. I can take it in very small doses. My Dad would pick chocolate chips/kisses out of cookies so one year, instead of making of making Peanut Butter Blossoms for Christmas, I made him a batch of Almond Butter cookies. He loved them. I just substituted Almond Butter in a Peanut Butter cookie recipe.

One of the great things about hiking with a hiking group is that you get to meet and know a lot of people that you wouldn't otherwise meet. I hiked for about half the hike with a lady who asked what I did. I told her I was an accountant to which she replied that she is also an accountant. So then I told her a bit about my career and then she said well, I'm not exactly the same kind of accountant, I'm a revenue agent with the IRS and am on furlough". She said she normally takes off time during th…

It was 28* yesterday afternoon, overcast, a bit of wind and with a dusting of snow on the ground but none of that deterred 14 hardy hikers who gathered at Island Lake State Park at 3pm. I had asked a co-worker if she wanted to go with me, so the 2 of us took off from the office at 2:12pm and I gunned it and arrived at 2:45. You never know what kind of traffic is going to be on Southfield or the Lodge so I'm just grateful no LEO's were travelling those roads at the same time We basically hiked th…

Quote from odd man out: “Nice. Those boardwalks are beautiful. I can sympathize with the beach walk. The Great Lake water levels are up and many of our beaches have become narrow or non-existent. ” I agree 100%. I've noticed, particularly in 2018, that the Montrose dog beach in Chicago has been less and less deep as the year went on.

As I've mentioned before, I'm 100% Polish so we celebrate Wigilia (Christmas Eve). To start Wigilia we share the Oplatek. When sharing it, you go from person to person and they break off a small piece from your Oplatek, then you tell them what you wish for them in the new year. My son-in-law told me that he hopes I am able to get back on the AT in 2019 for another LASH (although that's not what he called it LOL). His wish for me was a GREAT gift and has inspired me.

For once we seem to be having much better weather than most of the rest of you. Here in the Mitten it was 54* and clear yesterday. I texted with my daughter's close friend who lives in Brooklyn and she said it's supposed to be 60* in NYC today.

While I was in Chicago, I made dinner several nights for my daughter. I had taken a Japanese eggplant that we had grown in our garden and just harvested several days earlier before the frost. So, I searched for an old recipe that I hadn't made in about 10 yrs and finally found it. It's "Spaghetti with Eggplant, Butternut Squash and Shrimp". It turned out very good. Instead of spaghetti, I used bocatelli because my daughter likes it better. Edit: oops, just checked my Word document of the recipe …

We've been below freezing several nights this week. My husband is up in the Leelanau Peninsula purportedly to help a buddy renovating his century + old house but they've had frost Thursday, freezing rain Saturday and snow this morning so they haven't accomplished much since he got up there on Thursday.
