Interesting. No place in that article does it say that money actually changed hands.

Quote from IMScotty: “Hope you stay on as a boundary monitor LIHikers. ” We will because if we quit it would be more of a problem for the NY/NJ Trail Conference than ATC.

  • I'd be happy to see more of the usual wildlife. So far I've only seen 1 bear, 2 moose, a zillion deer, some snakes........

Quote from rhjanes: “My buddy and I went out to our part of LBJ National Grasslands. He'd reported an issue with a stream that USED to be very cross-able. It is anything but! Lots of debris floated down it and blocked it in at least three places. Making a 3 inch deep stream, 3 feet deep. We worked south to see if there was anyplace reasonably cross-able.....not really, at least not on any orienteering courses we would think people would chose for a route. SO, had to scratch one back country cont…

Thanks everybody.! Now I just have to decide what color to get my new pack. Right now I'm leaning toward orange.

I saw that article a few days ago and don't know what to do about it. If it weren't for the fact that we're life members of ATC, I probably wouldn't renew membership. I've also considered quitting as a boundary monitor. We'll see.

Today's snow fall turned out to be around 10 inches of light weight, dry, fluffy snow.

I e-mailed ULA and the reply I got says that our tent should fit in the outside, side pocket carried vertically. I too use a pack liner so I guess the idea of my tent getting things wet isn't really a concern.

Up until now I've always had packs that had straps across the bottom and I'd carry my tent there. Now I'm considering a pack, ULA Catalyst, which doesn't have that feature. I like having the tent outside the pack so in the rain I can get it set up before opening my pack. The only other option I can think of is to put the tent in the pack, but I'm not crazy about that idea as a wet tent could get other things wet. I'm wondering how you folks carry your shelter and what the pros and cons of the di…

Last Saturday Kathy and I had to go to New Jersey to take care of something. Since we knew we'd still have plenty of day light left after taking care of the other business we brought our NJ trails maps with us (thank you NY/NJ Trail Conference). We picked Norvin Green State Forest to spend the rest of the day hiking in. We parked the car and hiked in on an old woods road until our path was blocked by a pretty good sized stream. We headed back on different, unmarked, trails until we got back to t…

Quote from Trillium: “I have Eddie Bauer down mitts. I love them. When I go out on my walks, I wear smartwool gloves with the down mitts over them. Then as I warm up, the mitts go in my pockets. This week I've been walking in weather in the teens with a lower windchill. I also wear them as I drive to work in the chilly, well way below freezing, weather. I wish someone, hubby/daughter, would buy a gift for me to put on my steering wheel to make it comfortable to hold with only a pair of gloves on…

I got my first of 2 Moderna vaccine shots today. The airport I work on offered the company I work for a bunch of appointments. A few hours after the shot I started to feel woozy. I had to stop working on aircraft and spent the rest of the day cleaning up and doing some projects in the hangar. I go back for the second shot in a month.

But alas, I already have other commitments for this weekend.

Quote from odd man out: “We should organize a Groundhog Day climb of Mt Washington: - Temperature: 14°F - Gust: 94 mph - Wind: 77 mph - Wind Chill: -15° - Visibility: 0 - Weather: Snow, Freezing Fog, Blowing Snow ” Yea, I think I'll pass on that. Even I'm not that crazy. That would be a lot of effort for no view at the top.
