  • Quote from Astro: “Quote from SarcasmTheElf: “Quote from LIhikers: “It's my observation that Redneck country starts in Pennsylvania. ” It starts pretty much everywhere well outside of the cities. About 1/3 of Connecticut is redneck country, so is about 3/5 of NY state by landmass. ” Hiking the AT thru PA, NJ, NY the small towns with the friendly people, American flags, churches, and country music made me feel just like I was back in the South. ” People think NJ and they think industrial wastelan…

  • Quote from TrafficJam: “Regarding the use in healthcare, there are other products available that are as effective. If it proves to be unsafe, it's fine by me to pull it off the market. As someone who uses a lot of chemicals on myself and others, it's much appreciated. Another thought.. sometimes the FDA's data and info is provided by manufacturers, some of whom have a lot of influence. So although is was previously thought/"proven" to be safe, that may not necessarily be true. ” No! That could n…

  • OK, how about this.... To a FB add the the hash brown mix(or any dry potato mix)....add bacon bits...add dried chives...add powdered cream(yep, it's a thing!)...add butter powder(IKR?), add course ground tellicherry black pepper and...get ready for it...a touch of...nutmeg....then rehydrate with 20 percent less water than the potato manufacturer calls for. You can always add more water when you are a couple of minutes from the end, to adjust thickness... If you'd like....sprinkle some temperatur…

  • Quote from TrafficJam: “Not too sure about that Denali bear shooting and have to agree with some of the comments to the article. Maybe a knee jerk reaction? I guess it's hard to second guess. ” It is a tough call. Bear comes charging out of the brush. Do you draw and wait to see if it is a bluff charge? Every second he closes the distance is one less second to get it right in about three seconds total...plus..its a bear...they shot AT it 9 times...emptied the gun...and it still made it 100 yards…

Yeah, our camp had a 50 yard .22 range with 8 lanes and a range house. You bought an ammo card and they would stamp a star on it for...3 bucks? For each box of lead 22LR(50ct) they would use a hole punch and knock off a point of the star(5 pointed star)...so 3 bucks for 5 boxes, which was a rip because it was 35 cents for 50 at the hardware store...but they did provide really nice Winchester 52's, so getting awards was just a matter of time and money!! I remember there was some additional NRA fe…

  • Quote from Wise Old Owl: “Quote from Drybones: “I'm sure ya'll heard about the lady that proved a small .25 could stop a grizzly? ” You are joking right? Learn how a woman was able to stop a Grizzly from attacking her with one shot of her 25 caliber pistol. April 2013 This is a story of self control and marksmanship with an itsy bitsy shooter by a woman against a fierce predator. What is the smallest caliber you trust to protect yourself? The Beretta Jetfire. “While out hiking in Alberta Canada …

  • Quote from jimmyjam: “If you do your own reloading, the 45 long colt can be loaded to be more powerful than even the 44 magnum- so I've read. ” Yep. Or, you can get .45Colt in +P from Buffalo Bore. This particular round would be bear-adequate...but, you cannot shoot it through anything but a big frame Ruger. Although, I wouldn't see why you couldn't shoot it through a SW Model 25... buffalobore.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=38

  • Quote from TrafficJam: “That glock 29 does look good...about 2lbs. That should fit comfortably in my skirt pocket. Been thinking about how to sew a holster into the pocket. ” You don't have to load all 10 rounds if you want to save a little weight... But, word of warning about the 10mm. It has a large grip. Large as in large enough that even many males cannot manipulate the magazine release while maintaining a full contact hold on the grip. While it is certainly the only mass-produced semi-auto …

  • Well, my SW Model 66 3 inch 357magnum shoots just fine at 20 yards... Take a look at the energy of different 38spl rounds and 357 rounds and 9mm rounds in the link below. The one thing that will immediately stand out is that the best 38spl not +P is not as good as the worst 9mm and no 9mm is as good as the worst 357. When you are talking destructive force in a pistol, the more the merrier. Personally, I think the 38spl, even in +P, is an antique whose time has come and gone, except for center-fi…

  • If you are getting a gun for the AT it can only have two purposes. First, to shoot a human. Second, to shoot a bear. Probably in that order of likelihood. So, it would seem that you need the biggest gun with the lightest weight. Unfortunately with handguns, the more powerful the gun, the larger the recoil effect. The lighter the gun, the larger the recoil effect... IMHO, if you don't think you will EVER shoot a bear on the AT and just think about humans, then a 9mm is plenty. A .38spl, even in +…
