According to that chart, I do six week long dayhikes! The heaviest pack I have ever carried was 32 pounds, since 1969. Way back then my boots were still only about 2 pounds, suede leather with rubber crepe soles.

My Mom lives in Washington State and I have used Amtrak 3 times to go visit. I have gone to, or from Harpers Ferry 6 times for hikes. I prefer it to flying, no questions asked about anything in my pack. Used the Crescent and Capital Limited to get home from Springer, commuter and the Pennsylvanian to get home from High Point, NJ, etc. But, I never count on it being on time.
