Quote from odd man out: “...Not doing Trinity College in Ireland? Too bad. That is also very nice... ” Actually I am. I'll be flying into Dublin and staying at Trinity College for a couple nights before taking the ferry to Wales. Then at the end of the trip I'll take the train/ferry from London to Dublin to fly home.

So I've gone and done it... Started making my various reservations. Got three nights at YHA Ironbridge-Coalport in a private single room for £54 It was a late 18th century china factory, now hostel, cafe and museum. m.youtube.com/watch?v=z2kSa9-dLfU And the Lighthorseman Pub for two nights in York. lighthorseman.co.uk/ Guess I'm really going

Sorry, but in this day of boil in bag or freezer bag cooking I really cannot take seriously the Ovaeasy eggs being messy comment. At the very least, egg crystals equal to the number of eggs you desire plus a teaspoon of Nedo with a dash of salt and pepper, sealed in a vacuum bag will give you nice scrambled eggs. Make the bag large enough, to cut open, add water and reconstitute. Bring water to a boil and set the vacuum bag into the water to cook. Bam! Want to turn it up a little bit add freeze …

What I love about the discussion of filming locations is that if the production heavily used the trail people would be bloviating to no end that the movie commercialized the trail, that it was not LNT, that it ruined someone's wilderness experience, and there would be 100+ page threads on TOS decrying the abuse of the trail... But if you don't film on the trail, well we then b*tch and moan ab8ut that too. The absolute accurate geography of the trail is not really all that important to the film.

Why Most Thru-hikes Fail

Might as well just hand out participation trophies. ” You're confusing hiking with a team sport. It's an individual endeavor and the perception of failure or success resides solely with the hiker. ” With …

Han Shot First!...
Tuckahoe - - Coffee Talk
PostQuote from SarcasmTheElf: “Um, why wouldn't he? Someone was pointing a blaster at him and trying to kidnap him. I've really never understood the debate? ” Never was a debate, until George Lucas felt that Han shooting first made him look like a cold blooded killer and that the scene needed to be clarified. And since Lucas' a$$ raping of the scene... yeah well... youtube.com/watch?v=kbF83PhAZCY

Sleeping Bags
Tuckahoe - - AT Specific
PostPersonally, I would go with the 20 degree bags. In May in the mountains it still very early spring and can still get pretty cold. I find it a lot easier to vent a bag, than it is trying to add in more layers to get warm -- especially when many folks are carrying fewer layers as the weather warms up. On another note, regardless if someone sleeps warm or sleeps cold, I find that the physical exertion during the day can alter how well one sleeps warmth wise.

words I refuse to use
Tuckahoe - - Coffee Talk
PostASAP! Its not so much ASAP that bothers me, but it is that folks spell it out -- A - S - A - P -- rather than using the acronym as a word, a-sap. The whole point of the word is to spead up communication and all that happens is it gets slowed down. It is especially annoying in cop shows, medical dramas and war movies.

words I refuse to use

PostI find kit to be a quite useful and appropriate word. It's "system" that I can't stand hearing. Also agree with Elf -- I find it irritating everytime someone tells someone else what they "need."

Deejo Knives
PostDespite the insistence of the retailer that told me these were indeed French made, these knives are made in China. It's a shame really. I have no issue with the Deejo being made in China, it is a nice little, well made knife for the price. But the retailer wasn't exactly honest and won't get the sale.
