  • Three season has always meant 20 degree bag for me. I prefer down bags without side baffles where I can shake the down to bottom when warm & on top when cold. On the AT it was a TNF Purple Haze. Went to a Feathered Friend Rock Wren that I had oer-stufffed. It was stolen by a coworker years ago & I recently replaced it with a new version called a winter wren. I was impressed with it's loft. I look forward to using it in a month or two when I get it back. While working at Angels Rest Hiker Haven r…

Quote from IMScotty: “I visit WB infrequently, so I miss out on some of the news over there. Just found out that frequent WB poster 'Rain Man' (Raymond Myers) passed away in August. Took my by surprise, he seemed so strong as a hiker and in personality. RIP 'Rain Man'. Here is a copy & paste of a FB post from his family... Dear friends of Raymond, C. It's still on my bucket list. I relish the idea of a true wilderness hike. Hike is pretty much planned out. Just need finances to match up to it. This year has been pretty much a bust in my industry. I did order a new sleeping bag with my stimulus check! When it's made is in limbo. featheredfriends.com/products/…&utm_source=OrderlyEmails Now I just need to use it more when I get it to stay in shape.

This is similar to Awol & the companion. store.greenmountainclub.org/co…ducts/end-to-enders-guide. It lists hostels & has maps of the trail towns. Paired with their map, store.greenmountainclub.org/co…long-trail-map-waterproof should be all you need. The actual Guidebook it kida overkill. Similar to the AT state by state guide.

From PMags quick & dirty guide of the CT. About "Da Bears": While there are black bears on The Colorado Trail, they are not even as remotely aggressive as their High Sierra cousins. The black bears tend to stick to the valleys and are not habituated to backpackers like their Sierra cousins. A bear canister is overkill (IMO); normal bear precautions should be plenty

Quote from Traffic Jam: “It sounds like DB wants to sponsor an AT hiker who will be expected to post often to social media during their hike. They want someone who is good with a camera and wants the applicant to share their blog or instagram. It’s not for me either but maybe a good opportunity for the right person? Clarity comes to mind... enthusiastic, engaging, and brew knowledgeable. ” Doesn't Clarity already work for them?

You most likely drove within 1/2 mile of me on your way to the bridge. I live about 20 miles away from it. The big day here is Bridge Day in October when it shuts down to traffic & they allow bungee jumping, rappeling & base jumping off it. youtube.com/watch?v=492yNbMa84A Unfortunately I'm always in FL for Biketoberfest.

Turns out we drove through Gallipolis OH which is where Emma Gatewood lived out her final days as America's most famous hiker. Turns out it's also where Bob Evens opened his first restaurant there. ” Don't forget about Moth Man!

On the AT we have the 120 miles from Monson, Maine to Katadyn. Kathy says she wants to start at Katadyn and hike south but if conditions improve enough I think a lot of this year's thru hikers will go to Katadyn and hike south to where ever they got off trail. Pinkham is busy year round. Don't see what difference time off would be at any certain time. Hiking 3 season, ice climbing. Skiing & snowshoeing in the winter. I once stayed there two weeks when I took my woofer course. We had 1/2 to an hour break between school & dinner. Each day was a quick hike.

At Daytona Bike Week now. It's a mixed bag now. Two deaths on the panhandle. The manager of the condo complex says he's fully booked thru Spring Break. He believes more kid's are using Grandparents condo than traveling to other countries & also Other hotel managers he knows are fully booked. My $ numbers are down somewhat, but not that much. The number of foriegn people seems to be normal.

It's nice to see the next generations on the trail. In the late 90's I headed up to the White's for a vacation that got postponed several times dur to storm threats hitting Nantucket & I was needed at work. I thought my hike would be pushed back again due to a hurricane but it's path turned away from the Island. I told my boss I'd see him in a few weeks. He offered to let me postpone agin since the new path of the storm had it heading towards the Whites. I took proper precautions, I brought an e…

Glad the trip went well. Like most things it's a matter of pratice. The more you drive it the more comfortable you will feel. I agree with timing your trip A LOT! I often drive bypasses around cities or taken longer routes that are often not only faster, but a lot less stresfull. People that have never hauled a trailer don't understand. My ex hated riding with me in the Semi when I took her. She said I didn;t talk. I tried to explain to her I have 80,000 pounds under my butt. Fast reactions don'…
