You quit in a good spot. I can't imagine coming down the north side of Moosilauke with an injury. I think you made the right choice. The trail ahead is a tuff section. Heal up & do it when you are healthy. It sucks having t get off the trail early, but it is beter than a long term/permanent injury.

I went from Tuolmne to Vermillion Vally Ranch edisonlake.com/hikers/resupply with a stop at Reds for some stufff at the store. The money saved was worth the hike to it & the food & beer was great there. It is 21 miles north of MTR so you have to figure how iot works for you. From there it's 133 miles to Trail Pass.

Quote from twistwrist: “Wow, the prices to pick up a resupply at all of the locations are outrageous...up to $100 just to pick up the package?! Is it simply because of the remoteness of the trail? Obviously I'm not used to that from the A.T. ” I take it you are talking about Muir Trail Ranch. It's remote. Supplies come by pack train or boat. It's the reason I opoted for Vermillion Valley RFesort & a long walk on a side trail into Sequia NP CG.

I agree about the bugs. Depending on snow pack & melt. Postholer.com has links to the snow pack. I hit clouds of bugs in late July & almost none in Augast. I did get hit by a freak storm front that rolled in Labor Day Weekend & stalled for a few days. Rain lower elevation & snow higher up. All the locals said that hadn't happened for years. Most people agree Aud-Sept is the best time there

EMS was always my local store from the time I started camping. The year I did my thru I knew most of the staff on first name basis. That year was a lot of special order stuff. I also have worn a lot of their gear I bought when they went on special. I remember when I took their Ice Climbing Course. I showed up in an EMS Parka. The guides were jelouse because mine had a hood that could be rolled up into the large collar. They were the testers for new apparal & the prototypes didn't have one.

I like the way Scotty did his hike. I Joined the JMT on my SOBO Lash of the PCT that year. I took it easy first few days. I had a girlfriend with me for the first week & she started getting a headache on the second day. We just took an early day & dropped down some to camp. By the time I went over Whitney I never even notice elevation affecting me. I did camp on two of the high passes. One just about running up for pictures of the alpine glow in the lakes. By the time I finished taking pics I re…

While working in the heating industry on Nanntucket island I got called back to a house where I removed several radiators so they copuld refinish the wood floors. The owners son droped a set of keys down the pipe. I & the homeowner got lucky & I was able to hook them with an electrical fishtape/snake. Would have been many hours & hundreds of dollars if I had to cut into the pipes to retrieve them.

Grizzly Bears are far more dangerous than black bears. It's good to keep in mind that Grizzly's can't climb trees. How to tell the difference? If you see a bear, climb a tree. If it climbs up & eats you it's a black bear. If it knocks the tree over & eats you it's a grizzly bear.
