Quote from hikerboy: “The plan begins today. Taking Amtrak to Gaineville, Ga, gets in Thursday 7:25 am. I had bought a coach seat for $165 (private rooms started at $615, which I wasn't going to spend) A few days ago, I received an upgrade option where you place a bid starting from $160 to $615 to upgrade to a roomette, which has a bed and a private toilet. I put in a bid for the minimum $160, and a few hours later got an email that my bid was accepted. So at least I'll have a bit of privacy and…

  • Happy hunting,... I mean shopping There are websites that specialize on used gear, if that helps. The one that comes to mind right now is geartrade. There are more but I'm drawing a blank right now.

It's talking about that dog that has been posted as missing on the AT, in Facebook 2024 hiker groups. ” Knucklehead Angry Guy is ranting about Ramdino, who's kind of become the news reporter for the AT on YouTube. And once again showing how little…

For those of you/us that celebrate Easter I hope it turns out to be a great day.

  • Just my 2 cents, which isn't worth even that much, but I think all this worrying is gonna be for naught. Just like the Y2K worry which turned out to be a waste of time and energy.

I just can't decide if I want to put the front fender back on the bike or not. I was able to fix it.

It was the estate of a wealthy family from 1913 until 1955. As you might expect in an arboretum there were all sorts of gardens and green houses to go through. We hiked 4.1 miles on trails that went through the non-manicured woods. I think it took us about 2.5 hours as we stopped so Kathy could read the signs describing the trees, flowers, a…

We went out today for a bicycle ride. We rode over to a coffee shop across town 5.5 miles. After coffee and conversation we wandered home for a total of 14.9 miles. Outbound we were going into a moderate wind and coming home it was at our back about 1/2 the time. Then about a quarter of a mile from home I crashed. I don't know how or why but my front fender got tangled in the front wheel and I went down on my right side. After I untangled the front fender from the wheel we walked the 1 /4 mile t…

A friend told me about the app he uses for walking. It's called Caynax, and it's free. I'm using it on an Android phone and it seems to work good. It gives you all the info you could want like distance, speed, pace, altitude change, calories burned and more, that I don't remember right now. Oh, and of course it maps out your walk. Also you can save the individual workouts. It's also useful for running and cycling. What do you use to track your walk/hiking.

Kathy and I got out for a walk of 7.6 miles on a pretty nice day. Temps in the 40s, wind at 5 mph, and the sky was partly sunny and partly cloudy. It was on a wide, flat trail, that's very easy to walk. It's more like a rail trail than a hiking trail. Lots of people out walking their dog so Kathy got a fur fix. I was glad about that since we no longer have a dog and she's a real animal person.
