I'm still using the $300 little Aspire One I bought from Radioshack at the start of my 2013 AT hike when I'm not on the SAP.

  • Quote from twistwrist: “So, today I received an email from Beeradvocate magazine offering me pay to write an 800 word article about beer on the A.T. Condensing such awesome info into so few words is going to be a new challenge! I'm pretty damn psyched! ” I think you need Jimmyjam and myself as consultants. A few cases of their sponsors products should produce a fine article.

Ultralight tents are made of fragile materials. You need to consider that when pulling zips etc. It's like putting your socks on. You need to do it carefully and correctly. If you rush putting socks on you can get blisters. Rush a zip and you can damage something.

Quote from Drybones: “It was snowing a couple of days ago, now it's too hot to hike, hope it cools a little for the last week this month, got 5 days on the Foothills planned. ” "too hot to hike"!!!! No. Come on. Be more specific. I cannot accept that anywhere except maybe Hawaii, it is too hot to hike on US soil this week.

  • Wildlife Sightings Today

    OzJacko - - General

    Post

Not my photo but I saw one of these today. Quokka. Common on Rottnest Island but quite rare on mainland. Today was only my second ever mainland sighting. I was walking a mile into a Bibbulmun hut to leave some business cards for the Casa about 40 mile from home. Dropped a section hiker off so was there anyway.

I've said it before in stove threads and I repeat it here. Match your pot to your stove. Wide pot you can have a stove with a "bloom" flame. The narrower the pot the more you have to look at a centre burning stove.

  • I weighed my pack about 5 times on the AT. About the same the rest of the time. But it's enough to know what figure I am happy with. It's anything below 15kg.

When the local media interviewed a bunch of behind the camera types clutching their Oscars (Mad Max) at the airport this week, they were asked what they were going to do next. They all said they were going to get a "decent" coffee as they hadn't had one in the USA. Coffee
