We had very little snow until last night when the lake effect kicked in. We had about 1.5 Corgis just overnight, and it's still coming down.appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…17ed8181455cb94d3c0170ddd

Quote from LIhikers: “I'm thinking ahead to our planned LASH of the southern half of the AT in 2024. I'm wondering if alcohol is readily available, south of Harper's Ferry, for stove fuel or would I be better off switching to a canister stove? ” also interested. I've always used alcohol, but not yet hiked long enough to need to refuel enroute.

  • Hike in VA

My first hike in VA was 5 days from Big Stony Creek Road (VA 635) NOBO to US 220 at Daleville (71.2 miles). This is a great section and includes the so-called VA Triple Crown (Dragon's Tooth, McAfee Knob, and Tinker Cliffs). However it turned put to be a bit too ambitious as my knee gave out on day 3, exacerbated no doubt by a pack that was too heavy. I was at least able to make it over Dragon's Tooth and stopped at 4 Pines Hostel (be sure to have an "open mind" before stopping), had my shuttle …

I had worked for months to get my long term average on Global down to 5 guesses. But then on Jan 1, my average mysteriously shot up to 5.5, so I'm thinking the new year somehow messed up their score calculation algorithm. So I reset it. Now my short term (one day) average is now 5 guesses. globle-game.com/

Quote from LIhikers: “Today's walk I'm estimating to be about 2 miles, through my local residential neighborhood. I guess I really should put some app on my phone to know and keep track of mileage. Tomorrow I may give my bicycle a try, or not. ” Mapy is a free and simple mapping app. Unlike others, you can download maps for free. It does tracking.

Glad we got there before it closed. Nice to see some of the park is open again. There was a just a puddle at Badwater Basin when we were there.

For us, my wife, she can not negotiate any trail the requires her to step up or down, over an obstacle, and place he foot on a non level surface. A trail I can negotiate without breaking stride could easily take 15 seconds per step, which is a pace that is not practical for mor than a few dozen yards.

For spring break we are flying to FLL, renting a car, and taking two days to drive to Key West. We need ideas of what to see and a place to stay en route. We will have this one one our play list. youtu.be/7Ay_N7-mAfY

  • Quote from max.patch: “Is it cheating if you do the trail in a golf cart? ” Are you allowed to moon the people climbing Mt Washinhton in a golf cart?

  • Yes they allow you to use your email on you phone as the permit. Also note that for SNP, a thru hiker is defined as a person hiking through the park from one end to the other on the AT. Unlike GSMNP, there is no requirement that you have hiked a certain distance outside the park.

  • Springer start will work. Most of the trail south of HF allows dispersed camping, which is especially nice as you don't have to coordinate your unknown hiking pace with shelter locations. That's why I chose VA for my first sections. I have a 40 deg quilt for summer and has always been enough. I might bring a fleece for chilly night, but no puffy.
