Baltimore too for that matter. ” Yeah, but DC can be fun for a few days if you are hitting the museums and other sites, and can go by train and walk. ” I wish. I'll already have to miss a day's pay to attend arriving the evening before and leaving the morning after. Quote from SarcasmTheElf: “Hey TW, just want to say congrats! I hope you decide to take advantage and go. As others have said, check with the organizer and it…

These incredible hikers are direct from the Arctic where they work as nurses for the Inupiat Native Americans and are hiking the AT for some much-needed sunshine! Fascinating folks with riveting tales of polar bears and eating raw whales and caribou. Badass!

  • Quote from rafe: “Sometimes it's just bad luck. Sometimes it's 1% or 0.1% chance of failure, but it happens to you. We aborted a hike up Kinsman yesterday because of high water in a stream. I didn't feel like rock-hopping over icy cold water, from one ice-covered rock to the next, while wearing crampons. Julie, with longer legs, made it across, but on the way back, got a boot full of ice water. It would have been tough going if we'd had to cross that stream and continue for miles. Sometimes it's…

  • you're so thoughtful. Thank you. A week to the day later, he's still in ICU hooked to the ventilator. We keep thinking he's coming off and something else goes downhill to prevent it. He still can't feel or move his legs. They've said it will be a couple of years before he has full use of them again, if even then. I'm tired. Trying to fulfill my duties at Amicalola and be there for my friend has taken a lot out of me this week, but I'm making it. My "job" is my reprieve...for a few hours, I can p…

Quote from LIhikers: “The night we spent at The Inn At The Long Trail I thought the Guinness was the best beer I ever had. Good start to the article TW. I have a feeling your going to use up all your word count before you cover everything. There might have to be a part II. Don't forget to mention the joy of finding a 24 pack cooling in the water source at a shelter, pure delight. ” Hoping to work that into the conclusion. Thank you all for the badass suggestions!

Hey y'all! I'm moving the Beer on the A.T. article thread here. We have a category about beer in general, but this might be a good place to have an A.T. specific beer discussion. I'm working on my article for BeerAdvocate. So far I have the intro and one paragraph written and rewritten several times. I plan to organize the paragraphs in a northbound order, but Hop'n Moose in Vermont is the only one I've interviewed so far. My assignment is 600-800 words and is as follows: Which places stood out …
