  • Thru Hiker's Companion

    LIhikers - - Trip Planning

    Post

Back in December I ordered both the AT guide by AWOL and the Thru Hiker's Companion by ALDHA. I got the guide almost immediately. Does anyone know when the Companion might be available. I'm not as comfortable with The AT Guide as I am with the Companion and would rather use that for planning. I guess now that it's 2024 I'm starting to see our LASH on the AT as a reality and want to start thinking and planning for it.

You can hike all the way across Long Island on that trail, almost. You can go from Cold Spring Harbor to what I think is the town of Massapequa. With a detour into Bethpage State Park for a lunch break at the picnic ground it's about a 23 mile hike. Sometimes Kathy and I do it around the longest day of the year to mark the beginning of summer.

I thought the hundred mile wilderness in Maine was a special place. I don't know why but it was a place that had my attention much more than any other section. Maybe it was the natural beauty, maybe because it was our last section of the northern half of the AT, or maybe it was something else, who knows.
