Quote from LIhikers: “Quote from Traffic Jam: “My first hike of 2022…stringing together a series of local trails. I tested a new layering combo but don’t think it’s going to work for me. I planned to test some gloves too but after cleaning snow off the car, my hands were freezing so decided to wear my wool and angora mittens which were perfect. ” it looks like you have more snow on the ground than I do here on Long Island. ” Same here. Looks like the perfect amount of snow TJ, which is just enou…

We did not get that much, maybe 6" Spent the morning packing away the Christmas decorations, took down the tree, took down the outside lights. Still have not put the boxes in the attic. I always find sometime I missed a day later, so I'll keep those handy till tomorrow. Started the snow shoveling around 1 PM. It's not too bad. I have the foster kid out there shoveling now. He has never shoveled snow before, so I convinced it was going to be so much fun I'll take the next shift after he has gad e…

My problem is getting away for more than a week at a time. I just got a new foster kid and leaving more than a week puts too much of a burden on my wife. My major goal is to finish the PCT California desert sections E (112 miles) and F (86 miles) this year. I might try to do a week in March for one of these, if not, it will have to wait until the summer again. Hitting the desert in the summer has really slowed me down. I would also like to start sectioning another local (New England) trail that …

Here it is, part of the fun is planning, What are your hiking plans for 2022? Of course, like New Years Resolutions, Hiking Plans often fall by the wayside. "Man plans - God laughs." Regardless, the planning is what keeps me going through the long gray Winter. So, What are your plans?

Parts of it were underwater because of the Beavers, but I kept going anyway. The water was ankle deep and icy. I turned around after a bit because my wet, cold socks started chaffing my feet. Oh well, good for a couple of miles to finish up 2021. See you next Year! appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…93478b352330849fa9cdd…

For me it was a slow year... Did just shy of 100 miles on the PCT this summer. Finished up the northern half of the Long Trail with the final 30 miles or so. What did we do last MLK weekend, perhaps 10 miles? I'll call it about 140 total using very rough math. These were my only overnight hiking trips. I cannot keep track of my day hikes/ neighborhood walks, but my productivity there was equally unimpressive. The great thing about New Years is I can resolve to do better in 2022!
