Kathy, me, and our dog spent yesterday and today in Harriman State Park. We arrived about 10AM Sunday morning, saddled up and hit the trail by 1030 with about 3 inches of snow on the ground. We purposely walked slowly, so as to not work up too much of a sweat, as the temps were in the 30s. About 12:30 we were at the Bald Rocks shelter for lunch and relaxed longer than we expected too. After all, the idea of this trip was to relax, and get away from home and the routine of daily life. After lunch…

Looks like they got it right this time, we've got 2.5 - 3 inches of snow. In a while we'll be heading up to Harriman state park for an overnighter. I'm hoping to find more snow there. I even dug out my old Vasque, Clarion hiking boots to use. In the park they are calling for temps in the 30s today, 16 overnight, and the 20s tommorow.

Quote from Astro: “Quote from LIhikers: “I don't have a clue how far I walked in 2019 ” I was thinking yo out and Coach Lou might have hiked the most miles in 2019. ” Well then it must be Coach Lou. Besides our summer hike, most other hikes have only been a small hand full of miles.

Yesterday, after removing the racks and lights from my road bike, I dropped it off at my LBS (Local Bike Shop) for a complete going over. I've had it for almost 2 years and figured it's time for some attention by a pro. Also, I asked them to replace the chain and brake pads. The only things I've had to do is clean and lubricate the chain, keep the tires pumped up, and make a few minor adjustments. I want the bike ready so that when the weather warms up I can start commuting on the bike again. It…

We went out for a short, quick walk today to help offset a giant lunch we had. We did 4.6 miles round trip, out and back, on a local suburban trail, in a little less than 2 hours. The GPS said we had an elevation gain of 164 feet but I just don't see that as this part of the Nassau/Suffolk Trail seems dead flat. The weather was OK but nothing great. It was about 50% overcast, the temperature was 42 at the start and 38 at the finish but the blustery wind made it feel like it was colder. All in al…

We, Kathy, me, and our dog, spent New Year day taking a walk north on New York's Long Path. We didn't get to bed as early as planned last night so we didn't get up today as early as planned so we started walking later than planned. We drove up to the town of Nyack and parked in a McDonalds parking lot despite numerous signs warning that the lot was for customers and others would be towed. We took the chance this time and won. The day was totaly overcast with gray skies, the temperature went to t…

It was a beautiful day here on Long Island so Kathy, me and our dog went for a little walk. We decided on the Plainview Loop, a 5ish miles on a suburban trail that is rarely out of sight or sound of the roads, highways, houses and industrial buildings of the area. At least we got out for a walk. And the day was so nice that we decided to make the drive to the parking lot in Kathy's old 1978 Volkswagen bus. Fun on 2 fronts
