OK, I'm not going to bore ya'll with my condition after this, but I have been symptom free for five full days now. No vertigo, no light headedness, no shortness of breath and no chest pain. They have given me the option of a pacemaker installed on 8/20 or do a 30 day monitor study since I have been symptom free and because I am convinced that my troubles were medication related. I'm opting for the 30 day study. I've resumed bike riding at 30 minutes per day after sunset (it's hot as you know wha…

Quote from Astro: “Going SoBo also probably gets toughest parts of trail out of the way in case I end up having to finish in the dark. ” sobo might be the way to go. The trail between the Inn and the top of Killington was pretty good from what remember. You're still going to have to climb thru the roots. We did meet a few thru hikers who decided to do it sobo because they thought it would be easier that way. It's a pretty forest on top. That shelter on top is a rat hole, we were originally going…

The climb up Killington is a slow one because the trail is so worn that the roots are 2 to 3 feet above the floor of the trail. It's like trying to step over track hurtles. The .2 side trail to the peak is like the climb up South Kinsman, maybe even steeper, but great views.

If I had three nights I'd spend a day riding the Creeper Trail or you could get shuttled a little further north to USFS 84. The AT will be .3 mile up Hurricane Creek Trail which looks like it intersects the AT very near (just north) of Hurricane Shelter. From the AT here it is right at 11 miles to Wise Shelter which does have camp sites although the guide book doesn't mention them. Going south from there, camp at White top Mountain as above. Just be aware that adding this section from Hurricane …

I did post some of this in a thread called "Damascus to ????" But I didn't really provide much detail, so this is for TJ and DB if they hike it. If you have time, Damascus to Marion or vice-versa would be a really nice section. But if you only have a few days, I would park in Damascus and get one of the outfitters to shuttle me up to the parking lot at Grayson Highlands State Park where the AT crosses it and hike SOBO back to Damascus. Going sobo I would push for Whitetop Mountain only about 11.…

The whole thing makes me want to go back in business, get a job renovating some Cigna big wheels house, rip it apart and then disappear for a week or three and then show up with a stack of Change Orders. Grrrrr.......

I was just told it won't happen next week because Cigna takes a week to approve pacemakers. WTF? " Hello Cigna, my patient needs a pacemaker, what can I hold a week?" Damn our health Care is in sad shape. Good thing I'm not in "serious" condition, the doctor says I can do whatever I want until then -even hiking- but I'm not comfortable with that or straying too far from home. I guess I'll go to the library and stock up on books.

Well I just got a call from my cardiologist nurse and the halter monitor showed some low HR readings that they are concerned about so they are going to put a pacemaker in. So no hiking for me next week. I hope everything goes well and I can return to hiking soon. Please keep me in your prayers and thoughts. Thanks.
