Quote from Dmax: “My wife, when we're ready, wants to trade her '14 crosstrek for a 4 door jeep. We're unable to pull a pop up camper with the crosstrek. I'll be pulling a pontoon boat with my f250 super duty. .... I wish she'd keep the Subaru and just get the jeep to park beside it. ” Are you sure? I pulled a Coleman popup and a Scamp 13 with my 2003 Baja.

TJ I believe the problem is mainly at the shelter that is closest to My. Rogers. You might want to call the ranger station next to the Partnership Shelter and ask them about the bear.

Quote from Traffic Jam: “I planned to finish the FHT but temps will be in the 90’s so I’m canceling the trip. It’s supposed to be fun, right? Instead, my plan is to hike 40 miles on the AT from Fox Creek to Damascus. The shuttle is arranged. I’m bummed about the FHT but excited about the AT hike. It’s likely to be busy and I’m not used to that so have some anxiety about stuff like bathing, bodily functions, and being social. I don’t have a clue what this section is like. The idea was conceived y…

It's their description. It's a heavy cotton in what I would describe as a basket weave. Triple stitched seams.

I stay away from Tequila. On my 40th birthday I went to a surprise party for myself and two other friends who had birthdays the same week and drank tequila, then a bunch of mescal and ate the worm. Stayed out all night and was hungover for days. I was told it was a great party and I had a hell of a good time.

I have a flannel lined hooded canvas/fire hose like material vest from them. Very well made, seams are heavily reinforced. It'll last for decades.

  • Quote from max.patch: “i went to rei today and spent $28 on a couple pairs of socks and used my $5 dividend. this means i'll get another dividend next year. which means a year from now i'll be back to buy more socks so as to use my dividend. and so on... if i remember programing class correctly, i think i'm in an infinite loop. ” It's a vicious cycle we hikers get caught in.

They camp out here too for the sale and they all dash in grab everything off the tables in the first hour. People buying armfuls if stuff they don't or might need. The missus did get a nice pair of trail runners for next to nothing once. I've never bought any of the returned stuff, because by the time we get there nothing trips my trigger.

  • I still hang my food 95% of the time. Only had a bear approach me during lunch on the AT. Been bothered by a buck and his two does at night once cause I was stealth camped in the middle of his blueberry patch which probably wasn't too bear smart either.

A lot of engines with turbo require you to run high test gas- might or might not be a consideration for you.

  • Quote from Astro: “Anyone here have experience with Ursack? For the last 1500 or so miles of the AT I have been using bear boxes, poles, and cables when there, otherwise usually sleeping with my food in my tent. Last one I did was at a really remote campsite by myself in PA where I spent a long time hanging one and it fortunately worked (or at least per the article/comments was "untested"). ” No, but I have run across a few people on the AT using them. Just carefully tie it to tree. The bear can…

When I took my first leave of absence I gave them a six week warning. Then I became an independent construction consultant for them and came and went as I pleased until just a couple of weeks ago. But I have a long long history with them dating back to 1986 and was once VP of two their companies. I say talk to them at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance, you might be surprised and they might gladly give you a LOA.
