Glad he is having fun, hope he loses the weight. The first 20 miles are pretty easy, but he is going to reach some sections soon where at the rate he is going there is no way he can carry enough water to get through. I predict trouble ahead.

  • Quote from max.patch: “on a 100 point scale, with scores below 70 considered failing, the restaurant where i get my morning biscuit just scored a 47 on their health inspection a couple weeks ago. even worse, improper storage of the sausage gravy was one of the items cited. i just read that they were retested last week and scored a 100. i should probably eat their tomorrow while they are still clean. i guess my normal breakfast of oatmeal and blueberries is healthier in more ways than one. ” I wo…

Quote from LIhikers: “It started snowing a little while ago. I guess I'll check the forecast and see how much is expected ” Congratulations on tuning out the media's hysteria. I don't even bother with the weather reports anymore, when I notice that the local grocery store's shelves are bare of bread and milk, I know that the forecasters have whipped the public into another snowpocalypse frenzy.

  • Loosing skin on your feet?

    IMScotty - - Trail Health

    Post

Good information above, thankfully I do not suffer from those type of autoimmune skin problems (yet). I did have problems hiking in the desert last summer with skin loss on my feet and toes from the heat, salt, and sandpaper like effect of dirty socks. When I return this summer I look forward to trying to solve this problem with the following... 1) I intend to bring 7 pairs of lightweight socks instead of my usual two pair of Darn Tough. There is just no place to wash your socks in the desert an…

I have company this weekend, so a no-go for me. Hope you guys have fun. Looks like we have many Cafe members planning a New England Hike this summer. Perhaps we could calculate a time and place where these could all intersect for at least a one night get together. I would be up for that.

Quote from Traffic Jam: “Every day I remind myself to write down my mileage this year before it slips my mind but then don’t do it. I’m already starting to forget my mileage. Question, do we include walking on greenways/asphalt? What if it includes a little running? Ugh, this is getting complicated. ” Break it out if you want.... there are no rules here. It is worth keeping track, if for no other reason than as a motivator to keep you from sliding further into inaction each year. I tracked my ba…

Fortunately, other writers talked some sense in him. It would have been a douchey thing to do. boston.com/sports/mlb/2019/01/22/mariano-rivera-hall-of-fame Clearly there were douchey writers in Ruth, Mays, and Aaron's time too. As I was out there shoveling my healthy 22 year old daughter trudged by me through the snow (I hate it when people walk on snow I am about to shovel) and said, "I have to go to the gym." I wonder if she saw the irony in this? A half hour later my wife did the same thing, but she gets a pass.

I have only 4-5 inches in my yard, a bit of a disappointment. It rained afterwards and now there is a hard, heavy crust on top. Very unpleasant to shovel. I probably made a mistake in shoveling the walkway this morning, because it is still icing out and now I have a new layer of ice on the walk. I am heating up the cars now to try to make it easier to chip this stuff off. I wonder what it is like in Harriman today?

No symptoms, that is a good sign, but just be aware some people show no symptoms during the acute phase. When I was in Costa Rica I had a guide whose brother had heart damage from Chagas. The guide said he never went to bed until he searched his room to eliminate Assassin Bugs. They 'kiss you" around the lips when you sleep. Just like with Lyme disease it may be difficult in this country to find a Dr. who takes Chagas seriously. Maybe in Texas where it is beginning to show up more.
