  • Took a walk today

    Post

It was a nice day here on Long Island so Kathy and I took our dog, Tora, out for a relaxed walk on the Nassau/Suffolk Trail. Just for fun I took our son's GPS with us so I know we walked 3.81 miles at an average moving speed of 2.4 miles an hour and that our elevation was mostly between 45 and 66 feet above seal level. The thing can give more info than I really want to know.

My wife and I are members of Rails To Trails Concervancy so I guess you could say we'd be willing to pay for bicycle trails. Occasionally we've donated above and beyond our membership amount because we enjoy bicycling and think it's a worth while activity.

I guess I haven't been working hard enough on the indoor trainer as it seemed like a hard time today. ” Hey, but at least you got out there and had a "real ride". ” That's true, nothing like dodging traffic to give you a good work-out.

Quote from odd man out: “In the Netherlands they are building a highway infrastructure just for bikes. Makes sense for the Netherlands. Years ago we were in Groningen and saw a parking lot at the train station with easily a few thousand bicycles. citylab.com/transportation/201…y-built-for-bikes/531246/ ” In 1980 we lived in Holland for 6 months, even then bicycling was a part of every day life. In fact we bought a bicycle while there and outfitted it with a child seat on the back so my wife and …

Quote from max.patch: “any nyc bikers? youtube.com/watch?v=bzE-IMaegzQ&feature=youtu.be ” I've ridden in New York City one time. Me, my wife, and a friend rode the 5 Boro Bike Tour one time. The ride ended on Staten Island so we had to take the Staten Island Ferry back to Manhattan at the end. Then we had to ride from the ferry terminal down town to the train station which is in mid-town. That was no fun, instead I'd describe it as exhilarating as it really got my heart pumping and had all my se…

Do any of you who enjoy bicycling use a quick link in your chain? I'm thinking of putting one in the chain of the bike I use for commuting so I can remove, and clean, the chain easier and quicker. I'd like to hear how having a quick link has been good or bad for you

This is the only weekend for a while that works for both of us, and with the polar freeze-out lingering, we are only doing an overnite. So, if anyone is out and about......we will be at Big Hill Shelter on Ground Hogs Day evening! ” Ground hog day? That's today! Quote from Traffic Jam: “I had a nice walk today as I explored House Mountain just outside Knoxville. Not many actual miles to add to my (still nonexistent) 2019 Mileage List. It was only 3 miles of hiking but about 20 miles for the smileage list! It was amazing to hike up to the ridge and sit for a while, listening to the sleet, gazing at the view with a thermos of coffee by my side and cheese, pepperoni, and bagel chips for lunch. Hiking in winter is wonderful. The House Mountain natural area …

It was pretty nice day today here on Long Island. Nice enough that Kathy and I went to a local county park and hiked something in the neighborhood of 4 miles. Nothing special, we just wanted to get out and walk. At my age I'm afraid if I don't keep moving I'll turn into a couch potato.

When we were in Minnesota I wore a thin balaclava, a fleece neck gaiter, fleece head band, and a fleece hat and that kept my head warm enough to well below zero. Just doen't ask about my hands or feet. Since this is the "what's the weather where you are" thread, I'll report that today was in the 40s,and moderetly windy with a high overcast . It was a nice enough day to go for a walk, so we did in a local county park. I'd guess we walked 4ish miles, give or take a little.
