  • Yosemite's Firefall Hike

odd man out - - General

    Post

Yosemite's Firefall is back. In years when there is enough flow over Horsetail Falls over El Capitan, and the Sunday is at the right angle (10 minutes before sunset in late Feb), and if the skies are clear, the waterfall glows as if on fire. This year in order to manage the crowds, people must park at the Yosemite Falls parking lot and hike one mile through deep snow (with no guarantee conditions will be just right). This is not to be confused with the fake Firefall where they pushed a bonfire o…

He should do one of those videos where he takes a picture of himself every day and strings them together to show a time-lapse of his weight loss.

  • I saw the guy interviewed on the news this AM. He said he had some muscle damage from when they were pulling him out, but nothing permanent.

Just got home from a belated Valentine's dinner and it happened again. I ordered a Daiquiri and the server didn't think they could do that. Arrrghhh. Maybe next time I'll order a Gimlet (Daiquiris with gin instead of rum) or a Whiskey Sour (whisky instead of rum, lemon instead of lime) or a Margarita (tequila instead of rum, triple Sec instead of syrup). Azing how many cocktails have the same basic recipe.

  • Quote from Astro: “Growing up we raised pigs on the side and butchered them, and there was a man my dad used to sell the lard to. He felt sort of guilty about it because the man was so big that he more waddled than walked, and if he had a doctor I am sure that would not have been on his prescribed diet. But hey it is a free country. Or at least it was back then. My parents grew up eating opossum and head cheese, but as a personal choice I ain't going there either. ” My people were the ones that …

As of yesterday, the US has added a new National Park to the NP system, bringing the total up to 61. The spending bill signed yesterday included a provision to change Indiana Dunes from a National Lakeshore to a National Park. Not sure if there is funding for a better sign. I guess Indiana was feeling left out in the NP department so their legislators lobbied for this change. Frankly, the other three National Lakeshores are much better than ID. I wonder if MI and WI will also lobby for this "upg…

Those look great. II found the last Manhattan I had to be too sweet. Maybe I need to learn more about about Vermouth to get it the way I like it. I've also had an overly sweet Old Fashioned. In that case the bartender used a jigger of syrup. It should just have a tsp of sugar. I guess I'm partial to the not so sweet drinks unless they are balanced with sour, such as a Margarita, Daiquiri, or Whisky Sour. What's annoying is that these classic three ingredient cocktails have been perverted by so m…

I had a Sandy Kofax glove. Dad wanted me to be a pitcher, but with no arm, that wasn't going to happen. At the first practice coach put me at SS. He hit a hard grounder to third, I made a great pickup on full run on my backhand side. Turned to throw to first from shallow left field and the ball didn't get past the pitchers mound. Coach points to me and say "you play second". Unfortunately I had a lifetime batting average of 0.000.
