Quote from Traffic Jam: “It’s gonna be 66* today, 70’s tomorrow and Thursday (cloudy, rainy, and cloudy again). For me, it’s about the sunshine, not the temp. It’s been so gray and rainy all winter that 30* and sunny is 100x better than 70’s with rain. ” Yep, totally agree. I'd rather have high teens and sun rather than higher temps w/ rain or just cloudy, cloudy, cloudy for days on end. SAD is a sad thing.

We only had snow earlier in the week, because generally it doesn't snow once the temps go into the single digits and we were below 0* for most of the week. We got about 6-7 inches. Yesterday it got up to 42* and the neighbor kids went out early to make a snowman before all the snow melted.appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…4f6edb0fe110c3ceda387bd8d They said they used a green bean for the mouth so that their mother didn't serve it for dinner as they dislike green beans. Yesterday dawned with high's in the mid-high 30's and rain forecast for most of the day; supposed to end between 3 and 4ish. Hike scheduled for 3pm at Proud Lake State Park. If I had thought the trails would be glare ice, I wouldn't have gone; but in the city, the snow/ice had melted enough to be slush, so I thought what the heck, I'd rather be out in the woods possibly getting wet than at the Fitness Center again. So, got out my rain pants and my Marmot rain jacket and wore boots (that I though…

I'm glad it worked out for the baby deer but I was getting concerned that she had been habituated to the man and the dogs too much to return to the wild. Thank goodness she did go back to her Mom and that the Mom accepted her back.

It's 20* here in SE MI with 3" already on the ground and another 6" set to fall in the next 6 hours. Was supposed to go on a hike/picnic but it's a 70+ minute drive in good weather. I like to hike in the snow but don't fancy the drive home in more than 1/2 foot of snow so I pulled the plug on today's hike with the group. I may hike in the local woods that are only 2 miles away.

My daughter & son-in-law love nutella. I can take it in very small doses. My Dad would pick chocolate chips/kisses out of cookies so one year, instead of making of making Peanut Butter Blossoms for Christmas, I made him a batch of Almond Butter cookies. He loved them. I just substituted Almond Butter in a Peanut Butter cookie recipe.

One of the great things about hiking with a hiking group is that you get to meet and know a lot of people that you wouldn't otherwise meet. I hiked for about half the hike with a lady who asked what I did. I told her I was an accountant to which she replied that she is also an accountant. So then I told her a bit about my career and then she said well, I'm not exactly the same kind of accountant, I'm a revenue agent with the IRS and am on furlough". She said she normally takes off time during th…

It was 28* yesterday afternoon, overcast, a bit of wind and with a dusting of snow on the ground but none of that deterred 14 hardy hikers who gathered at Island Lake State Park at 3pm. I had asked a co-worker if she wanted to go with me, so the 2 of us took off from the office at 2:12pm and I gunned it and arrived at 2:45. You never know what kind of traffic is going to be on Southfield or the Lodge so I'm just grateful no LEO's were travelling those roads at the same time We basically hiked th…

The Great Lake water levels are up and many of our beaches have become narrow or non-existent. ” I agree 100%. As I've mentioned before, I'm 100% Polish so we celebrate Wigilia (Christmas Eve). To start Wigilia we share the Oplatek. When sharing it, you go from person to person and they break off a small piece from your Oplatek, then you tell them what you wish for them in the new year. My son-in-law told me that he hopes I am able to get back on the AT in 2019 for another LASH (although that's not what he called it LOL). His wish for me was a GREAT gift and has inspired me.
