  • I just did some on-line browsing of these devices and found that they certainly aren't cheap. And then you have to pay for the service too. Maybe when I retire and am working on my 3 bucket list adventures 1. Bicycle across the country 2. Finish hiking the A.T. 3. Hike from New York to my son's place in Ohio

Quote from odd man out: “Quote from jimmyjam: “We're having wine with our hot dogs tonight. Does that mean we're classy rednecks or just confused rednecks? ” Depends what kind of wine it is! Personally, I am on a quest to find the best Chili Dog in the Grand Rapids. In MI, chili dogs are kind of a big deal. Locally known as a Coney, and each city has its own variety. A GR Dog is a hot dog (preferably all beef with natural casing) with Detroit-style chili, onions, mustard, ketchup and its definin…

Scotty, I think you've hit the nail right on the head. We're becoming way too "civilized" for our own good.

Kathy and I, along with our dog, took a walk on the Nassau/Suffolk Trail this afternoon. We started around 2:30 and hiked out for 2.5 miles, turned around and hiked back. Even though this is a suburban trail we only passed 1 person. We did see quite a few people on a near-by, paved, bicycle path and no one on the dirt mountain bike trail. All 3 of these trails are on a narrow corridor of government land. The sky was completely overcast so it was a gray day but the temperature was in the high 30s…

When I got home from work Kathy no longer felt like sleeping out in the yard last night, so we didn't But on a more hopeful note, there's nothing on our calendar for the next two weekends so maybe we'll be able to get away to the woods for an overnighter.

It's been so long that Kathy and I have spent a night outdoors, in the woods, that we're planning to set up the tent in the back yard and sleep outside tonight. It's not going to be cold enough for my winter sleeping bag but I may anyway just to say I did.

  • Sounds to me that they got something wrong Glad to hear they helped you out financially though. As I get older and closer to working on my bucket list items ( long hikes and a cross the country bicycle ride) I consider getting one of those.

Yesterday Kathy and I, on our way home from REI, stopped at a local county park for a walk with our dog. I'm guessing that we covered about 3 miles and finished just as it was getting too dark to see where we were walking. On the way home we stopped at Dunkin Donuts for coffee, hot chocolate and an apple fritter. The best part was having time together! Life gets so busy that we don't get much uninterrupted time together so this was very nice. It was a great way to end a weekend that was filled b…

I went to REI today as I had to return some winter boots I had ordered through the web site. I managed to get out without spending too much money. The only thing I bought was a couple pair of thick, heavy Smartwool socks to use during our trip to northern MN in January The place was crowded but not so much that it was uncomfortable.

This article impacted me so much I drove for an hour into Maryland to pick up 2 pounds of White Lilly and I am not a southerner. We have made two batches and my wife is clearly confused. both batches were baked and turned out well and were not hockypucks. We are adjusting the recipe. My thoughts are to adjust the recipe to Scones eventually. Huge thanks! CANT WAIT TO A…

You're a woman of many talents. How about recording a song with 2 tracks, one with you playing the fiddle and the second track with you playing the guitar ?

That sounds like quite a trip. Glad to hear you guys enjoyed. As an aircraft mechanic I used to think the Air and Space Museum was fascinating. It pales in comparison to the Air Force Museum near Dayton, Ohio. At least that's what I think now.

Yesterday at work I asked all the young guys if they knew of the song Alice's Rest., none of them did. At my last job, while working on Thanksgiving, none of the young people knew the song either so I played it on the computer we had in the hangar. They just didn't "get" it. I guess it's one of those things you had to live through to understand.
