Quote from SandyofPA: “I have the Western Mountaineering Antelope, as a side sleeper the width allows me to pull my knees up to stay real warm. I pair it with an X-Therm. ” Following as I may also be in the market for a cold weather bag someday. I also like to sleep a fetal position. That's what I like about my quilt I use for warm weather conditions. But a lot of people don't recommend quilts for cold weather sleeping.

Quote from jimmyjam: “What are you using for a pad(s)? This time of year I always add a foam pad to my inflatable and Mai use a space blanket under all that ” I have one of those Dollar Store car windshield sun screens that are a thin layer of polystyrene with silver Mylar coating on both sides. I've wondered if something like that would do the same thing. The insulation is very thin, but as a supplement with the Mylar coating a heat reflector on both sides, I thought maybe it would work. I have…

My best eagle sighting was probably 30 years ago at Seney Wildlife Refuge in Michigan's UP. An Osprey dove into a pond right in front of us and caught a fish. As he was flying away, a Bald Eagle took the fish away from the Osprey in mid air.

First snow of the year today. For now it's a rather pretty gentle dusting of everything (except the roads - too warm). But for this afternoon they are predicting strong winds with heavy lake effect snow. Oh goody.

Quote from max.patch: “a record low tonight -- the doorbell rang only once with 3 kids (and mom) outside. that was it. ” Same as us. One ring, three kids. In our case we live on a dead end street that comes off a main road with no houses. Few young kids on our short street no no business on Halloween. However out my back window I can see the street of the house behind us and you can see hundreds of kids. That neighborhood gets all the attention, but because their streets don't connect directly t…

I have the worst luck with cars. Everyone else report "my car has 414,000 and still runs great....". In my life, nearly every car I've had starts falling apart after 100 K miles.

I've seen them. Not been in one. I did see a week or so ago they were near the bottom of the car reliability list (just above Volvo which was holding down the bottom of the list). What happened to Volvo? They used to be great. First Saab disappeared and now this. I expect more from the Swedes.

So I don't have to lie about my Swedish heritage to use it to my advantage the way the Trump family does. ” Look at the bright side! good thing you did not run for a senate seat. ” Actually, my life is so G-rated, I should run for office or get nominated for Supreme Court. • A water bottle is cheap. Shipping water is not cheap. Water bottles pro idea water for a few minutes. Filters provide water for a few months. Water from a bottle is available in seconds. From a filter it is available in minutes. Once empty, a water bottle becomes garbage. With a filter, it can be used indefinitely. My filter has no moving parts to break and can be back flushed if clogged. So the one advantage left for water bottled is they are superior for those of us who can't follow directions…

  • One thing I've never figured out is why disaster relief agencies invest tremendous resources to ship and distribute truck/plane loads of water bottles instead of a box of water filters.

Then for dinner, ate a double bacon cheeseburger and cheese curds from Culver’s. This morning, I weighed less, ” This is my weight loss program includes weighing yourself every morning (after I pee) …
