They were hiking 10-12 miles on the Waterloo-Pinckney and Equestrienne trails. I hiked with them for 1.65 miles then turned around and hiked 1.65 miles back to the parking lot for a 3.3 mile total. That was long enough for today. It felt so wonderful to be back out in the woods on a trail hiking again!! ” Sorry t…

That's not really true, but we do keep the thermostat at 60. We both prefer it cool, and besides, if need be we can put on another layer.

Looks like Kathy and I won't be making MLK 2019 That's because we recently booked a 5 day dogsled camping trip, in northern MN, for that weekend. We'll miss our friends here but we'll be enjoying the cold just like you. The first time we did this the temperatures went down to 25 below zero.

  • Kathy and I still use a Katadyn Hiker Pro filter. Yes, it's heavy, prone to clogging and is a lot of work to pump the amount of water we use. If it ever breaks we'll move up to something smaller and lighter.

I rode my bicycle to work yesterday for the first time in a month. I had hurt my leg at work and had to wait for it to heal, so I wasn't riding. It was 36 degrees when I left the house but I was spot on with how I dressed. The only part of me that was cold were my ear lobes. During the ride home I had a verbal altercation with a young car driver who was sure I should be riding on the side walk. The exchange involved a lot of him sounding his car horn, yelling out his window, and him cursing and …

I'm a Semite in a way that could only happen in the U.S.A. From my mother's side I have Jewish blood, and from my father's side I have Arab blood. Every time there's a war in the middle east I get confused and don't know who to root for.

It rained this morning and it's getting ready to rain again. I had just enough time in between to fix Kathy's '78 VW Bus so that it will pass NY State inspection, which is due by the end of the month.

  • What's For Dinner?

    LIhikers - - Coffee Talk

    Post

We;re going out for dinner today to give my nephew a send off, he leaves for the Navy later this week. Gave him a choice of anyplace and he chose IHOP. Not where I would have chosen for the last supper but that's OK. Because of his high school grades and how he scored on the ASVAB test they already have him slated to be a nuclear powerplant tech on submarines. Yeah, he's smart, he probably could have gotten into most any college but chose the Navy instead. I'm both glad and sad at the same time.
