Quote from LIhikers: “Looks like Kathy and I won't be making MLK 2019 That's because we recently booked a 5 day dogsled camping trip, in northern MN, for that weekend. We'll miss our friends here but we'll be enjoying the cold just like you. The first time we did this the temperatures went down to 25 below zero. ” We will miss you, but dogsledding sounds like fun too. Maybe Tara can still come out to play

Quote from Trillium: “I injured my foot pretty badly on 9/15; was on crutches for 2 weeks then slowly recuperating. Today I went for a hike with my meetup group, MAC. They were hiking 10-12 miles on the Waterloo-Pinckney and Equestrienne trails. I hiked with them for 1.65 miles then turned around and hiked 1.65 miles back to the parking lot for a 3.3 mile total. That was long enough for today. It felt so wonderful to be back out in the woods on a trail hiking again!! ” That is a start Trillium. …

It was 36 degrees when I left the house but I was spot on with how I dressed. The only part of me that was cold were my ear lobes. During the ride home I had a verbal altercation with a young car driver who was sure I should be riding on the side walk. The exchange involved a lot of him sounding his car horn, yel…

Quote from odd man out: “I have over the years encountered many variations on cooked cranberry and raw cranberry relish, but after trying many styles, I have to say that nothing beats the simplest basic recipe of one cup of sugar, one cup of water, one bag of cranberriers, boil until they are all popped. Smash with a potato smasher, cool, eat. I love the popping sound they make as they come to a boil, and then just a few second later there they go from hard berries to mush, almost instantly. So …

Tried a new recipe tonight on the puffballs, I cooked them in the style of eggplant parmigiana. It is unbelievable how close they taste to the real thing. Delicious. I also did an experiment to detoxify and taste an Amanita mascara (Fly Agaric or Santa Claus Mushroom). I tasted a single cap to see how it goes. Cooked up it was absolutely delicious. Meaty tasting. I will have to let you know if I still feel well tomorrow.

The Giant Puffball (Calvatia gigantea) is the 'tofu' of the fungus family. Not much in the way of flavor by itself, but it will carry the flavor of whatever you cook it with. I like to slice mine thin and fry with a few slices of bacon with a drizzle of hot sesame oil. appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…c6bf0b184ea707c8f0490f9f0
