Quote from StalkingTortoise: “Glad to hear it wasn't any worse than it was. Since I'm also reviewing ways to get back up to Franconia Ridge, may I offer a suggestion? What about taking the Old Bridle Path (shuttle stop) or Greenleaf Trail (both 2.7 miles) to the Greenleaf Hut, then continuing on 1.1 miles to the summit of Lafayette? Granted, you'll have to re-trace your steps on the AT from Lafayette to the Garfield Ridge Shelter (3.9 miles), but you might get those views that you missed the fir…

Had a scare last night. Went out to my garage in the dark to quickly grab something out of a vehicle while wearing Crocs. Did not see a wet spot and slipped/flew through the air and landed on my right side. My knee was bent back, but my hip took the brunt of the fall. Only thing going through my mind then was had I just destroyed all the progress of my surgery and rehab. Wife had me take 4 ibuprofen, ice knee, and went to bed. Fortunately I had a PT rehab appointment this morning and he checked …

I had been given good advice to use the Huts (both this year and in the past), but I had a hard time convincing myself to spend the $$$. Next year I will be using them.

  • Thanks for the great pictures and trip report. Great inspiration along with JimmyJam's as I rehab my knee and get ready to hike the rest of the White's next summer.

Nothing. appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…2b61feaf019c1d7eedeedd3d2 They ended up camping about 2 miles south of the Galehead Hut. When it cleared later that evening, they were down below treeline and didn't get to see anything other than the immediate forest views. Timing is everything... ” That last line is so true, especially in NH and ME. I saw s…

Quote from max.patch: “i go to one rome braves game a year -- but i wasn't at this one. history made last nite -- first 2 pitch complete inning in baseball. edit to add: 2 pitches -- 2 line drives -- 3 outs. sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. youtube.com/watch?v=nLZqKqAjutc ” They started using the "international rules" in extra innings in MiLB to speed up the games and make them more interesting. In this case it definitely worked.

Quote from max.patch: “here's one way to steal third ya don't see every day. youtube.com/watch?v=T3gmehjvoGw ” Butch Hobson has had an interesting life. After playing QB for Bear Bryant at Alabama he went on be a star 3B for the Red Sox and eventually their manager. Later after a drug bust while managing in AAA the MLB clubs pretty much wrote him off. Great to see him still managing in the independent leagues. Never a boring character.

They are supposed to be doing a prequel to the Sandlot. Perhaps if that kid could act a little too, he might have a role.
