Quote from AnotherKevin: “Quote from odd man out: “In Sweden there are unstaffed ferry crossings on the Kungsleden (one of their long distance trails) that simply have three rowboats - one on one side and two on the other. If you are lucky, you get to the side with two boats and you simply row across. But if you get to the side with one boat you have to row across, bring one boat back from the other side and leave where you started and row the second over to the other side and keep going. It wor…

Quote from Astro: “I guess different strokes for different folks. Not bringing a snake into my house anytime soon. And even I wanted to, can't see the wife buying into that is a great idea. ” i can certainly appreciate that thought. As a single I see a snake as a responsible pet. None of the issues of owning a dog or cat. When traveling for a few days I don't have to worry about a sitter or a kennel. For long term travel I only have to worry about a friend coming in for two feedings. Best yet sn…

  • I always liked Backpacker's gear issues. I was never going to seriously consider buying any of the featured gear, but it was entertaining just to look at the pictures. On the otherhand, it would be a disaster for our favorite flavor of the week cottage producer to actually appear in Backpacker, as most of them would collapse under the weight of wider exposure to the market.
