Took a walk today
PostYou can hike all the way across Long Island on that trail, almost. You can go from Cold Spring Harbor to what I think is the town of Massapequa. With a detour into Bethpage State Park for a lunch break at the picnic ground it's about a 23 mile hike. Sometimes Kathy and I do it around the longest day of the year to mark the beginning of summer.

Quote from Astro: “Quote from dmperkins74: “Quote from Astro: “When I saw the thread name I thought it would be about where to charge your electronics. ” Same I guess I'll just keep trying to plug my phone into trees and see if that works! ” Watch out for shelters that have "electrical outlets" that are actually connected to nothing. ” There is/was a shelter in New Jersey that had not only a fake electrical outlet in the back wall but also a satellite TV antenna on the roof.

I think we got there somewhere around 9-10 AM. I've never been on the Abol trail so can't comment on that. ” Good to know. if the weather is good I would camp the night before to get an early start, I think. ” That's what we did to be able to get an early start up Hunt trail.

Quote from odd man out: “Quote from LIhikers: “I'm thinking ahead to our planned LASH of the southern half of the AT in 2024. I'm wondering if alcohol is readily available, south of Harper's Ferry, for stove fuel or would I be better off switching to a canister stove? ” also interested. I've always used alcohol, but not yet hiked long enough to need to refuel enroute. ” We've always used alcohol for all 3 season hikes. We never had problems finding fuel in outfitters, hardware stores, auto parts…

I thought the hundred mile wilderness in Maine was a special place. I don't know why but it was a place that had my attention much more than any other section. Maybe it was the natural beauty, maybe because it was our last section of the northern half of the AT, or maybe it was something else, who knows.

Took a walk today
PostI didn't get in a walk today because I did a bicycle ride instead. I had to do some errands and the bicycle was my transportation instead of driving the car.
