PostI am not sure how many AT hikers actually know that Mt. Mitchell is actually the tallest point east of the Mississippi. I think there is a trail that now connects the AT to Mount Mitchell, but I have not heard of any thrus making the side trip.

I did not know what it was till I got home and researched it, but I thought it quite beautiful. The flowers seem to transition from orange to yellow as they age, or maybe it was the other was around.
