Kathy and I got to Harriman S.P. about 1PM on Friday and started walking just a little after. It was in the low 50s with a pretty good breeze. During the drive to Elk Pen parking lot we decided to overnight at the Big Hill (I think that's the name) shelter area. 3.7 miles in and a lot of it was up hill. Since it rained the night before there were a lot of puddles and mud. Also all the streams were running high and fast.. We got to the area, set up our tent and walked over to the shelter. It turn…

Kathy and I are planning an overnighter for this coming Friday into Saturday. It'll be the first since I had had the bone in my leg crack. We've decided on Harriman State Park but haven't picked a place in the park. We'll be looking for someplace that isn't too wet. We're having a big rain storm tonight.

Took a walk today
PostQuote from IMScotty: “Took a walk around Flushing NY today. You could have dropped me off in Hong Kong and I wouldn't have known the difference ” Hong Kong or Korea ? While I haven't been to Flushing in many years I know it had a very large Korean community.

I thought you were calling him gorgeous, but it was actually the scenery you were referring to. ” So if the first president owned an attractive chasm, we could say:George's gorge is gorgeous. ” The George of Valley Forge? ” Clever

LIhikers - - AT Specific
PostIt's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission Other places on the AT consider you a thru hiker if you've hiked at least 50 miles before getting there, so maybe that would apply there too.

I've mentioned here that Kathy and I plan to due a LASH on the AT this year, hiking from Harper's Ferry to Springer Mountain. We are planning to start late in April. Unexpectedly something has come up, that we have no control over, that we'll have to be home for. So now we have no idea when we'll be able to get away. I'm disappointed but not giving up hope that we'll still get it done this year.

All I can say is...unbelievable!

Took a walk today
PostGot out for a walk on a trail today, about 4.5 miles. It was very wet and muddy. Not only that but the mud was very slippery , almost like walking on ice. I'm glad I took my poles along
