Basically, you need to enjoy a fundamentally inefficient activity to use a wood burner of any kind -- there are clearly lots of easier ways to boil water. So.…

    1azarus - - Hammocks

    Post

yup... my wife would send me to the basement, too, if i wanted to hang a hammock! you got me thinking... we were posting about structural ridgelines a couple of weeks ago. your basement hang made me think of a structural ridgeline in compression, not in tension the way they normally work. what if you took a steel tube the actual length of your hammock -- say 9 feet or so -- and fastened your hammock to that. you could then hang/suspend your hammock straight down from the ceiling at the tube endp…

  • Quote from BirdBrain: “Read my SoBo report again. That is what I mean by great weather. I spent a month in the woods in Maine and had 1 day of rain while walking. Had a couple of showers here and there and it rained while I was sleeping. It is a running joke with me for more than 15 years. It is always great weather when I am vacationing. We sail a couple weeks a year and the weather is always good.” wow. you should probably gamble.

  • ok WOO... i tried to watch it all, and didn't quite catch the weight of the thing -- but it doesn't look like anyone would want to carry it very far -- but for car camping it does seem perfect. once you admit that it weighs more than you want to carry, then alternatives like: Therm-A-Rest Luxurylite Ultralite Cot or even just a standard camp cot probably start to make sense. Heck, you could stack three big agnes superpads in a nylon sleeve and bring a down comforter and it would weigh less. or b…
