Took a walk today
PostKathy and I just got home from a 3 day, 2 night, backpacking trip. I'll do a full report within a few days but the bare statistics are temps between high teens and low 30s, snow averaged 16 to 18 inches deep, some more and some less, and most of the trails we were on were already broken and packed down. And maybe the best of it all was the hot shower when we got home.

PostQuote from rhjanes: “My buddy and I went out to our part of LBJ National Grasslands. He'd reported an issue with a stream that USED to be very cross-able. It is anything but! SO, had to scratch one back country cont…

ATC Survey
PostI saw that article a few days ago and don't know what to do about it. If it weren't for the fact that we're life members of ATC, I probably wouldn't renew membership. I've also considered quitting as a boundary monitor. We'll see.

I e-mailed ULA and the reply I got says that our tent should fit in the outside, side pocket carried vertically. I too use a pack liner so I guess the idea of my tent getting things wet isn't really a concern.

Up until now I've always had packs that had straps across the bottom and I'd carry my tent there. Now I'm considering a pack, ULA Catalyst, which doesn't have that feature. I like having the tent outside the pack so in the rain I can get it set up before opening my pack. The only other option I can think of is to put the tent in the pack, but I'm not crazy about that idea as a wet tent could get other things wet. I'm wondering how you folks carry your shelter and what the pros and cons of the di…
