Quote from LIhikers: “WE got home from our overnighter a bit ago. I'll post a trip report when I have more time. By then the saga with the New York State Police should be concluded and I can give you all the details. Until then you'll find me on the group W bench. ” Father stabbers. Father rapers!

  • Quote from IMScotty: “Another sad story... a 26 year old hiker died of what looks to be hypothermia on Bondcliff in NH. bostonglobe.com/metro/2016/12/…AP09hVOMlcbWlO/story.html Hypothermia can sneak up on you, you need to pay attention to the warning signs. ” A sad and sobering story... The kid had good gear and a reasonable itinerary. It's not like he was heading out in sub-zero temperatures like Kate Matrosova. My hiking partner still thinks we wussed out by leaving the trail at Elk Garden ins…

  • My daughter gave me a great present - she told me she wants to start backpacking! Then she got a nice present - Dad took her to REI and she got her first backpack and a co-op membership. It was a lot of fun wandering through the aisles and showing her all of the options for water treatment, cooking, sleeping bags, tents, etc.

Quote from TrafficJam: “Quote from Drybones: “Anyone here tried Four Roses bourbon? I recommend it, made a run to Total Wine & Spirits the other day, was looking for something new to try, couple of guys recommended it....would like to hear a professional review by TJ. ” I will try it, just so you can benefit from my expert opinion. ” Four Roses distills a large volume of raw corn liquor. The majority is then finished in-house but they also supply a few craft bourbon manufacturers who use their o…

  • Quote from LIhikers: “You know, anyone who would take over the Doyle would become a non-profit whether they wanted to or not. ” That there is funny. I don't care who you are... I visited the Doyle twice - once on my section hike from the Mason-Dixon Line to the Susquehanna and again after the short section from the Susquehanna to Peter's Mountain. In fact, those were my only two visits to the town of Dumpcannon, even though it's only 35 minutes away from home. Not a lot of draw for the Central P…

He sounded like he gargled with pebbles before the show and forgot to spit 'em out. Add in zero interaction with the audience and it was a poor performance. At this point, he could writ…

(sung to the tune of Tweeter & the Monkey Man) Meatballz and the Ninja Girl were hard up for cash. They stayed up all night scheming a Fastest Known Dash. On the Appalachian Trail, and the doubts began to whirl. For reasons unexplained, folks loathed the Ninja Girl. Ninja was a soldier before she went to Springer Mount, And found out the hard way, yellow-blazing doesn't count. They thought they found a goldmine beating Speed Goat's record time. So they posted up a topless pic after mile 2189. Th…

  • Quote from max.patch: “Quote from StalkingTortoise: “I have a hard time understanding how someone who has no funds would hike into a town and expect to receive services for free. That reminds me of the hiker I met last spring who stopped into a trailside hostel, got a ride into town from the owner, spent all of her money at McD's, and left her remaining pocket change ($0.40) in the donation basket. She justified it by stating that the hostel owner loves hikers and does it for his own enjoyment. …

Back in college, the old house I lived in had 8" door jambs. My roommate and I popped popcorn for weeks and kept it in trash bags. One night after we were done drinking, we waited for our buddy to fall asleep in his room and then duct-taped plastic sheeting to the outside of the door jamb and the floor, leaving a gap at the top. Then we dumped the popcorn in and sealed up the top. The next morning, our buddy opened his door and saw nothing but popcorn - he thought we had filled the entire hallwa…
