While doing the southern half of the AT as one journey is a bucket list item, we'll adapt that list as needed. As we all know, life doesn't come with any guarantees. So as StalkingTortoise said, we'll adapt.

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission Other places on the AT consider you a thru hiker if you've hiked at least 50 miles before getting there, so maybe that would apply there too.

I've mentioned here that Kathy and I plan to due a LASH on the AT this year, hiking from Harper's Ferry to Springer Mountain. We are planning to start late in April. Unexpectedly something has come up, that we have no control over, that we'll have to be home for. So now we have no idea when we'll be able to get away. I'm disappointed but not giving up hope that we'll still get it done this year.

Got out for a walk on a trail today, about 4.5 miles. It was very wet and muddy. Not only that but the mud was very slippery , almost like walking on ice. I'm glad I took my poles along

I had breakfast at The Appalachian Trail Cafe. Eggs, bacon, potatoes, coffee, what more could a guy want? It was pretty good too !

  • I don't think it would work. How are you going to work full time and hike full time? One of the 2 would suffer.

There's also a few pages at the very back that I'd like to keep too. If at all possible I'd like the front half to stay bound together. Any suggestions? ” microwave the book. Start with 30 seconds and slowly increase the time until the glue is soft enough for you to pull out the section that you want. Say what you …

The best/worst part (depending on your outlook) is that it hit 51 degrees on my digital, outdoor, thermometer. I sure hope winter isn't over yet. ” Matter of perspective. To me 51 is winter, and I am always hoping for it to end as soon as possible. ” I guess, but having slept outdoors in below -30 F gives you a different perspective on winter.

I got out for a short walk in a local county park that has some trails in the woods. It was my first walk on trails since the problem with my left leg. We may have walked only about 2 miles.

If you remember, I mentioned that I had my left tibia develop a stress crack while Kathy and I were hiking the Great Allegheny Passage. I saw the doctor again yesterday and he feels that I'm fully healed and am cleared for hiking on trails. In fact after some excercises he had me do he thinks my legs are stronger than most 70+ year old men. I'll try our local county park soon and I see an overnighter in NY's Harriman State Park in the near future.
