Started in Cub Scouts, went to Webelos, then onto Boy Scouts. Achieved Eagle Scout without a moment to spare and was in OA. Continued on as a Jr Asst Scoutmaster then Asst Scoutmaster. Worked several summers at Camp Heritage near Uniontown Pa. Taught several different merit badges, most of which were water related. Even had my picture in Boys Life magazine.

  • There are many parts of that river that are only a foot or two deep. A buddy had a jacked up pick up truck. We'd drive out to the middle of the river, sit on the tailgate and fish all day. Good time for sure.

  • I grew up in SW Pennsylvania and "thru hiked" that trail a couple of times as well as countless shorter trips. With that being said its been 25 plus years since I set foot on it. the trail is 70 miles long and takes most people 4-5 days to complete. The Seven Springs and Ohio Pyle areas are my favorite. There are several shelter sites along the way. Each one has probably 5 or so shelters in the same area. Most have a water pump however its still a good idea to filter. The shelters are very simil…

Prayers that the forecasted rain is enough to help. ” looks like there was well over a hundred businesses, homes, and cabins destroyed in one night. As of today the death toll stands at 11. The lady who was working the stand said the course consisted of 9 different runs that started at the parking lot near the front of the lodge and it takes apx. 90 minutes to complete depending on ho…

AFSP has started a new 'Adventure Lodge" program at the park. They now offer a Climbing Wall, Guided Hike. Survivalist Camp, GPS Scavenger Hunt, 3D Archery range, Guided Trail Run, and more. The survivalist camp seems a little basic, but still may be a fun way for me and my son to spend a weekend, especially if I throw in a zip line run for him. I understand that State parks have a need to compete for dollars but putting a zip line over the falls is a mistake.

Leaving in the morning for GSMNP. Hoping to get in at least one decent day hike while the wife and son go to a water park or something. Rented a cabin in the middle of no where so I expect this to be a fun vacation.
