Tried them. Got tired of people asking why I hiked with leg weights.

I use a pair of Leki Malibu Trails. Help me immensely both uphill and down. They are twist lock. If I had known about cam locks would have probably opted for them. I find however that most problems folks have with the twist locks is because they never clean them and don't know how to adjust the tension. I have heard that poles take 25 percent of the stress off your knees but also that you burn 20 percent more calories because of the upper body work. At my age I need all the help my knees can get…

Woke up to about 3 inches of fresh snow and 18 degrees. Would love to have that 68 if just for a few hours. Heading south in a couple weeks but right now the weather doesn't look like much fun either. Hoping that a couple weeks will make a big difference. If not there is always Argentina.

There is an older couple who were posting on trial journals. Lady fell and broke her leg around the 16 mile mark. Wonder if it is the same couple.

I'm really going to have to start out slow. Our weather has been bad like everyone else's this year. Haven't walked even half as far as usual thru the winter. And not having any hills around doesn't help. Have done some time on the elliptical and the treadmill at 10 degree incline but my legs aren't even close to being trail ready. It will all be okay in a couple of weeks, just have to manage to stay out of trouble for the first 100 miles or so.

Heading south on March 17. Will watch the weather and maybe hang out a few days at Hemlock Hollow depending on the weather situation. Have no intention to hike in snow and ice unless I have to. Nice to not have any time constraints.

Oh, I thought you were doing a thru this year. Not that that isn't a long way to hike. So by doing the BMT you will see some new sites that you didn't pass by last year. Sounds like a good plan.

I am heading down the morning of the 17th and may hang out awhile, all depends on the weather. I'm not very good at post holing.
