I've been working on an itinerary for the Tahoe area and the Desolation Wilderness for hiking and backcountry fishing. Now I'm not sure if this is the right year to plan this trip. I see that a lot of people order their bags/quilts with 2/3 ozs of overfill. Why? Is it for extra warmth? If so, how much does it add. And if it does shouldn’t you just order a warmer bag? Is it to try and keep more good down in the bag between washes so you stay at the temp ratings of the bag? Wouldn’t overfill compress the down already in there? If a lot of people order this way why not make it standard and make the special order for an under filled bag

An easy hint.... I forgot to mention on the Apple House picture, the external pack is from Wingfoot. I hiked into Hotsprings with my external frame broken. I stopped by his house to see if he had any fixes for it. No luck on fixing it but he did give me an old pack of his that he had used on a previous thru hike.
