With our move Annie goes 45 mile each way to work 9 times a fortnight. The nearest shop is 12 miles away. She has an economical Subaru. I now have a 10yo diesel 4wd. We try to minimize our mileage but until the old house sells I think we will just have to suck it up.

Costs me more than $100 each time I go up and down between my new and old homes. Done it nearly 30 times this year. Fuel bill this year for Annie and me is already over $5000 and it's 1st September.

John Stempur takes any coolers left near his hostel as "it's littering". He has an odd mixture of drinks for sale (warm) in his garage and a large stack of coolers. He said he broke up the styrofoam ones.

I definitely would like the terminus to stay at Katahdin. Springer is not so iconic. If they moved that to Blood Mountain say, it wouldn't be an issue. But I fear that the restrictions in BSP will cause it to cease as terminus unless there is an unlikely about face by Bissell and co.

Quote from odd man out: “At a church bible study many years ago, our pastor commented that according to our denomination's teachings, divine inspiration that resulted in the authoring of sacred texts ended with the books of the Christian Bible. Other texts that came after that claiming to be written by divine inspiration are heretical. I then pointed out that the Bible wasn't assembled for a few hundred years after the books were written, so by your logic the Bible is potentially flawed. Wouldn'…

(Hidden Content) Quote from Mountain-Mike: “Quote from OzJacko: “Here's one for those of you who like to research. My searching shows Baxter bought 6000 acres "around" Katahdin from Great Northern Paper Mills in 1930. Looking at the Mills history I cannot see detail of how they got the land originally. Katahdin has no commercial value to a paper mill. Was there any limitation to their original title to Katahdin? This could have been a limitation on what they had a right to sell Baxter. Don't for…
