I'm thinking of hiking the Bartram Trail end of March, beginning of April.

  • Wow, and still have a couple of months left in the year, cool.

Which guide do you use to plan your next hike? In the mail today I received "WhiteBlaze Pages 2021". I figured it was a good time to order a new guide. I've been using one that is ten years old, or so. I figured with Covid there must have been a few changes and closures. I liked the way Appalacian Pages was laid out, and the WB2021 looks to be about the same. I had the first edition and liked and disliked the profile. The water sources and shelters weren't lined up right. The WB guide seems to d…

I keep my Darn Tough receipt in the sock drawer. Our outfitter has switched mine out twice for me due to holes. Too much wearing around the house during winter, I guess. I started with smartwool, then darn tough, and the last ten years or so, wright socks.

Got my license last week too. $61 with the trout stamp and a hard copy card. That's a lot for someone that's catches and release. Plus I still need to get my South Carolina and North Carolina out of state licenses. Ouch....

I put one brisket, covered in mustard, in the oven for Ruben sandwiches. I put another brisket in the crock pot with potatoes and carrots. The cabbage was cooked on the stove.

That same year, Wired did the Wonderland Trail then headed to Australia. She did the LT, Bib (with a pic of Jacko on her blog), and the C2C. She ended the year with a start of the Te Araroa thru hike which covers all of NZ.

Quote from odd man out: “Quote from Dmax: “Quote from odd man out: “Wondering about the High Sierra Trail. Would that be an even shorter alternative to the JMT? ” I read Walking With Wired's journal of the HST a couple of weeks ago. Sounds like a great trail with a couple alternate routes. The routes cross each other everyday if I remember right. I like the option of alternate routes as I'd pick the lower route most of the time because the older I get, the more I hate heights and exposure. It's a…

I have a Jansport D5 in the closet. Maybe my next extended weekend hike a should use it and wear blue jeans and a flannel shirt. Then stay by a shelter so I could hear everyone's comments about me and wondering if I was a homeless serial killer. It could be fun, lol.

Quote from jimmyjam: “Going to the Big Ditch. Got my hiking buddy Slingshot going with me!!! He's never been. Yeee hawwwww it should be a blast!!! ” The other day I read Walking With Wired's journal of her Hayduke Trail thru hike. Those that hike the Hayduke hitchhike twice at the bottom of the canyon. Their notes tell them when is the best time to get to the river to try and catch a ride to the other side. Certain beaches are the best spot to catch the rafters headed down the Colorado River to …

My wife got the OR down hat about two weeks ago. We were hoping to get a blackrock hat but they are going out of business. She’s been wearing it for walks around her place of employment in the mornings. She was wearing a serious fleece hat but said it wasn’t warm enough. She said her OR is perfect. I want one more like the blackrock, with more down and no elastic on the bottom edge. Hopefully I can find one or I might pick up an OR till I do find one.
