What a neat book OMO. I can attest that St. Patrick's Bridge in Cork still looks the same.

The last Total Solar Eclipse to hit New England was I think in 1959, so I missed that one. This really is a once in a lifetime event for me, so I do not want to miss it. Yes, I am excited. I tried to make the 2017 eclipse that crossed the PCT in Oregon part of my section hike that year, but Oregon was on fire. Instead I just continued on my next section in California and had to settle for a very partial one. This is my last chance. And there can only be one OMO LI Hikers

  • Why do all of you keep on trying to push the whole when you hike the AT yourself then talk agenda? Matt C., because it is evident from your posts that you have a lot to learn. Please don't take that in a negative way, I have a lot still to learn too. But, it seems reasonable to say that the best way to learn about hiking the AT would be to actually hike the AT Why are you all acting like people with money haven't already and are continually wrecking the trail? Here is the thing Matt C., if you d…

  • Matt, you keep applying your personal definition of what a thru-hike should be to others. Not cool! Why don't you focus on what you want to do, and let others do things their way. The trail is part of a community. One of the great things for me is getting to know some of the places, people and towns that the trail goes through. I've gained so much getting to know the hostel owners, trail angels and shuttle drivers I have met along the way. I have considered it enriching, not 'pathetic.' But to e…

Scott's Eclipse Plans: I've already let my students know that classes will be cancelled that day. This is my last shot at a total eclipse. I have not made any reservations anyplace, because I wanted to be flexible on where I go depending on the forecast. Probably too late to get a place along the path anyway. Northern New England in April is likely to be overcast. If we do get a rare clear Spring Day in New England, I will probably drive to Burlington VT and watch it from the shores of Lake Cham…
