I use a Mayfly when motorcycle camping, but too heavy for backpacking. I've used the Thermarest chair with a Scout pad for a couple of years without incident moto camping and brought it along backpacking a few weekends ago. I've never been able to sit comfortably on the ground, so the few extra ounces of the thermarest chair make it bearable for me.
